Series Preview: Injured or Not, Mets Must Win Homestand

Click your heels three times and say there’s no place like home. It was the longest road trip the Mets had so far this season, but it felt much longer then the ten day span it took.

The MLB's Best Performances Thus Far

With every new baseball season comes a renewed sense of hope for baseball fans everywhere. With everyone's record tied at 0 - 0 every fan of every team can imagine a scenario in which their favorite team finds a way to make it to the playoffs and, with a little luck, the World Series.
Behind these hopes there is often times a prediction of a breakout performance by a young player, a return to form by a veteran, or simply a continued dominance by a team's superstar.
2009 has already seen examples of all of these and teams like the Toronto Blue Jays and Texas Rangers are reaping the rewards.

Wright and Beltran Lead Mets to Win the First West Coast Series

The Mets are going for a four-game sweep of the San Francisco Giants tonight with Mike Pelfrey being opposed by Matt Cain.

It certainly has been an eventful week for the Mets who have seen Carlos Delgado put on the DL yesterday, which puts a strain on the remainder of the middle lineup as well as a need for a first baseman.

Jose Reyes has not played since Wednesday afternoon with a stiff calf muscle that started in New York but was made worse by the cross-country trip on Wednesday evening.

New York Mets: Blazin' Amazins

These last few weeks have been great ones for the New York Mets and their fans.  The Metropolitan's have won 10 of their last 12.

Many say the team is on fire.  That is true, but individual Mets are on fire, too.  With that, as of now, the New York Mets are the "Blazin' Amazins."

The Mets Are Heading Out West and May Be Without Some Key Players

The Mets left last night for their west coast trip, which starts in San Francisco tonight. This will be a big test for them, as they are facing the Giants and Dodgers, both pretty much undefeated at home this season.

Carlos Delgado and his lingering hip injury is the primary question mark entering the road trip. Delgado has missed several games the past two weeks and Jerry Manuel is openly pessimistic about the status of Delgado's return.

The Mets Offense so Far in 2009

The Mets have an incredible lineup full of speedsters and sluggers, and in two cases, namely David Wright and Carlos Beltran, they have both speed and power as evidenced by both of them being members of the 30/30 club.

Jerry Manuel does little to change the lineup on any given day other than the pitcher and the catcher in the event of a day game following a night game.

Mets Latest Loss to Nationals: Just a Microcosm of Season Thus Far

I like to think of myself as a realistic Mets fan.

This offseason, while many of my fellow Mets fans were picking the Amazins to finally overtake the Phillies and win the division, I was quietly optimistic while still taking a wait-and-see approach.

I even picked the Phillies to win the division in my National League East season preview article on Bleacher Report.

With that even-keel mentality in mind, I think it may be a long season for us Mets fans.

Mets Coaches On The Firing Line With Changes In Rotation Not Far Behind

A little more than two weeks into the season and the Mets are 6-9 and were just swept by the St Louis Cardinals, and there is serious talk about firing coaches and demoting pitchers to the minor leagues.

The Mets are now starting a home stand against the Nationals and Marlins, it is crucial that the Mets get their legs under them soon or else there will be major consequences.

Jerry Manuel is on a short leash, no question, but I for one am not positive firing the coaches and sending pitchers down to the minors will solve the team's problems.
