Cliff Lee is, as expected, the most coveted free agent as the MLB Winter Meetings open this week in Florida. Despite the Boston Red Sox' acquisition of Adrian Gonzalez and the mega-deal between Jayson Werth and the Nationals, Lee remains at the forefront of the rumor mill as proceedings begin.

I am happy this made-up drama is finally over. I have seen wrestling story lines that had more real drama that what went on with the New York Yankees and Derek Jeter over the last couple of weeks.

Now that Derek Jeter is officially back where he belongs, we can look ahead to next season. Of course there is still a lot of decisions to be made, but Jeter is no longer one of them.

Last season, Jeter had the worst statistical season of his career. He hit just .270 with 10 homers and 67 RBI. His on base percentage was .340, 45 points lower than his career average of .385.

With the announcement today that Derek Jeter and the New York Yankees have finally agreed on a new contract, the Yankees can turn their attention to their big offseason target—Cliff Lee.

There was never any doubt that Jeter would be returning to the Bronx, despite harsh statements from both sides and the Yankees' decision not to offer Jeter arbitration.

The New York Yankees and Derek Jeter have reportedly agreed to a three-year deal worth about $51 million.

There is also an option for a fourth year that is worth less than the $17 million that he will earn on average for the first three years of the deal.

According to Sweeney Murti of WFAN, there are many elements that will determine the final number for the option in Jeter's deal.

Everybody knows the New York Yankees have their hearts set on adding lefty ace Cliff Lee this offseason, perhaps as early as the winter meetings next week. Of late, however, there has been a lot of talk about the interest being shown by the Bronx Bombers in free agent outfielder Carl Crawford.

A source with knowledge has told ESPN that Derek Jeter has re-signed for a three year contract that will pay him $17 million. The end of the contract has an option for a fourth year at a lower salary the report says.

The Yankee Universe can relax today, their captain is coming back to the Bronx.

According to George King of the New York Post, Derek Jeter will re-sign with the Yankees to a three-year deal worth $51 million dollars.

This contract will end a period of what seemed to be a chaotic negotiation process between Jeter, his agent Casey Close, and the Yankees.
