New York Yankees: Post-White Sox Thoughts

The New York Yankees finished up a three game series against the Chicago White Sox with a 12-3 win today. The Yankees won the series by winning the opening game as well as the finale, but losing the middle game.

I wanted to share some thoughts that came to mind as the series wrapped up.

Derek Jeter Passes Ken Griffey, Jr. for Most Hits Among Active Players

Please read this carefully.

Take your time to understand the import of what you are about to read.

For if the following hits you as it hit me when I first read it, you will be amazed.

As reported in the New York Post today, last night Derek Jeter passed Ken Griffey, Jr. as the active player with most hits in his career.

But the incredible part, the part you have to read carefully is the other part of the Post report.

Yankees Struggles Start at the Top. Blame Cameron Diaz?

The New York Yankees had started the season red hot but have cooled down as of late. Losers of four of their last five, the Yankees now sit 2.5 games back of AL East leading Tampa Bay. I decided to look back at the past five games and try to find a common theme.

Well, I found one at it was right at the top. The top of the batting order that is. The top four spots in the Yankees batting order have not had much success at all the past five games. These are the guys expected to carry the club and provide most of the pop.

Power Rankings: The Top 10 Most Spectacular Defensive Shortstops

As the famous phrase goes, “Chicks dig the long ball.”

While that may be very true, what’s most often overlooked in the game of baseball is overall spectacular defense.

The most noteworthy defensive plays are often made by the athletic and talented shortstops of the game, which feature some of the best range in the field, combining their skillset to make diving plays, backhanded stops or the ever-so-famous jump and throw maneuver.

So who are the most spectacular and flashy of the shortstops in today’s game?

The Top 10 Celebrity Fans of the New York Yankees

The New York Yankees are the most successful franchise in all of sports. Playing in the Bronx, the Yankees garner attention and support from millions of fans all over the world. These fans represent every race and social class.

Over the years, numerous celebrity and famous people have been spotted wearing Yankee apparel or catching a game in Yankee Stadium. Even though there are many famous Yankee fans, these are the top 10 Yankee fans that continue to proudly represent the Bronx Bombers!

Yankees-Angels Series Preview: Can New York Win Its First Six Series?

The Yankees have won their first five series, including last week's triumph over the Angels, but now the Bombers head out to Anaheim for a rematch in a stadium where New York has not had a great deal of success over the past 15 years.

Then again, this doesn't appear to be the same Halos team the Yanks have battled during the past decade-and-a-half. Los Angeles has been mediocre out of the gate, posting an 8-9 record with less-than-stellar statistics to back it up.

New York Yankees: The Good, the Bad and the Ugly

One of the best Clint Eastwood movies from his Western days was "The Good, The Bad and The Ugly." Fantastic. Rent it if you have not seen it. In fact, get a bunch of Clint movies one rainy day and park yourself on the couch.

This movie title is going to be the same as this Yankee theme. It will be a bi-weekly segment on the most recent Yankee two week stretch of games.

Old Guard Keeps Chugging Along for New York Yankees

Let's start today with a little numbers exercise:

New York Yankees Firing on All Cylinders to Begin The Season

If there has been one thing that has plagued the New York Yankees the past few years, it has been their slow starts to the season. The Yanks then have to finish the season strong to be in contention.

However, 2010 is starting off great for the reigning World Series Champions.

The Yankees are 7-3 entering Saturday's afternoon game against the visiting Texas Rangers. The Yankees are a half-game in front of Tampa Bay and Toronto, and two-and-a-half games ahead of the Red Sox.

It was important for the Yankees to get off to a fast start for a few reasons.

Hideki Matsui: New York Yankees Fans Show The Love For Matsui

The Yankees had a special guest on hand for their ring ceremony Tuesday afternoon.  It wasn't Yogi Berra, it wasn't Whitey Ford, and it wasn't George Steinbrenner—although they were all there.

Hideki Matsui was the true guest of honor in the house that the Core Four built.

Although Matsui wasn't with the likes of Derek Jeter, Jorge Posada, Mariano Rivera, or Andy Pettitte back when the group won their first four rings in the 90s, he still feels like a true Yankee who has been there forever.
