Detroit Tigers

Detroit Tigers

What Would Houston Want For Oswalt? The Tigers Fit The Bill To a Tee.

It's time to make the move guys.

Don't be fooled by Scherzer, it looks like he is back but he will still be a little up and down.

Same with Porcello.

Encouraging signs, but I want to win now.

This team is ready to strike and let's hope Dombroski doesn't go down like Inge on a called third strike. Take your swings Dave.

You guys know what I want, you read my two articles about it.

Detroit-Oakland: Detroit's Max Scherzer Dazzles As Tigers Cruise By A's

It looks like Max Scherzer's brief stint with the Detroit Tigers' Triple-A affiliate the Toledo Mud Hens was just what he needed.

Scherzer dominated while in Toledo, and he looked to be in top form against the Oakland Athletics on Sunday.

Dontrelle Willis DFA'd, Detroit Tiger No Longer

The DTrain is going to be laying down new tracks....right out of Detroit. Dontrelle Willis, the struggling left hander, was designated for assignment after Saturday night's loss to the Oakland Athletics at Comerica Park.

The move removes Willis from the 40 man roster and leaves the Tigers 10 days to trade him, release him, or send him outright to the minor leagues. However, Willis would have the right to refuse any minor league assignment and become a free agent.

This likely ends Willis' tenure in the Tigers' organization, which has spanned the past three seasons.

American League Central Will Be a Turbulent, Two-Team Race—Buckle Up!

Somewhere, sometime in the history of the baseball world, it was deemed that the Fourth of July holiday should be the benchmark to determine whether your team had a snowball’s chance in Hell of waving the pennant at the end of the season.

Not sure why July 4. Why not Flag Day, June 14? Seems appropriate; the pennant is sometimes called the “flag."

Labor Day is cheating; there’s less than a month left, so that’s hardly a step out onto the limb.

Detroit-Oakland: While Cabrera Goes Yard Thrice, Tigers Lose Opener to Athletics

After what could be construed as a successful west-coast road trip, the Detroit Tigers came home Friday to face the Oakland A's.

And lost 5-4.

Miguel Cabrera supplied all of the offense for Jim Leyland's club.

Yes, all of it.

Is Max Scherzer of the Detroit Tigers Fantasy Baseball-Relevant Again?

To call Max Scherzer’s first eight starts of the 2010 season disastrous would be an understatement.  When you are carrying a 7.29 ERA and 1.67 WHIP, there is no one word to succinctly describe just how bad you’ve been.

Zach Miner: Tommy John Surgery on Tap, Detroit Tiger Fans Hardly Upset

Zach Miner.....does that name even ring a bell to anyone? Certainly not in 2010. Ok, you might remember him from such exciting shows as Imploding 'Pen 2009 and Fail 'Pen 2008.

Miner is an everyman reliever and sometime starter most notable for not being notable. The story is always the same—average stuff, below average strikeout rate, above average walk rate, never an exceptional outing, and usually pitches as if he belongs on the trash heap.

Four Tigers That Could Be All-Stars This Year

This year, the Detroit Tigers are capable of great things in all facets of the game: regular season, post-season, as well as the All-Star Weekend.

The Tigers have the potential to send four players to Angels Stadium in Anaheim to compete like they did in 2009, despite losing two All-Star players last year (Curtis Granderson and Edwin Jackson).

However, the two Tiger All-Stars retained from last year are up for re-election. See who else in the race.

Roy Oswalt To the Detroit Tigers? Maybe, but Just Maybe So Far

I wrote an article the other day hoping that the Tigers would have interest in Roy Oswalt, so you know I am glad to hear that the Tigers may in fact have an interest.

It has been reported that the Tigers have contacted the Houston Astros about his availability, and I want to take that as a sign that Mike Illitch has answered my question with at least a maybe.

Maybe is a very good answer right now if the question was, can Illitch find Dombroski a spare 10 million or so?

Monday Morning Manager: My Weekly Take on the Detroit Tigers

(please take a moment to answer the accompanying poll re: MMM; thanks!)

Last Week: 3-3
This Week: at SEA (5/25-26); OAK (5/28-30)

So what happened?

The Tigers’ mastery over National League teams took a bit of a hit.

Since 2006 especially, the Tigers have done amazingly well in interleague play. They’ve treated NL teams like redheaded stepchildren, annually.
