This upcoming season for Astros pitchers will be an interesting one for fantasy owners. With Brett Myers’ 2010 success, a strong second half from Wandy Rodriguez, and J.A. Happ’s potential, Houston has a chance to showcase three top-100 starters this year.

In his first season with Houston, Brett Myers had one of the best years of his career. He successfully took over the role as ace of the rotation, especially with Oswalt’s move to Philly.

It has been an extremely busy week, with a few trades (Tom Gorzelanny, Vernon Wells), a few big signings (Manny Ramirez, Johnny Damon) and a lot in between.

Let’s take a look at all of the transactions from the past week and determine which have fantasy value and which we can safely ignore.

Arizona Diamondbacks

Here’s an early look at the 2011 outfielder rankings:

1. Carlos Gonzalez, Colorado Rockies: All CarGo did last year was hit .336 with 111 runs, 34 HRs, 117 RBI and 26 SBs. He’s the total package.

2. Ryan Braun, Milwaukee Brewers: Braun regressed in 2010 (-12 runs, 7 HRs, -11 RBI, –6 RBI), but he has still averaged a .307-99-32-105-16 line in his four years.

Prince Fielder is like a box of chocolates, you never know what you’re going to get.

This offseason, the Mets have seemingly been acquiring potential options to be their everyday second baseman, from selecting Brad Emaus in the Rule 5 Draft to trading Michael Antonini to the Los Angeles Dodgers for Chin-lung Hu. 

It’s a wide-open competition, so let’s take a look at all the options the Mets have and handicap who fantasy owners should want to see:

Luis Castillo

Fantasy owners continue to wait for Billy Butler to develop power.  After hitting 21 HR in 2009 (along with 51 doubles) there was hope that he had turned the corner.  There was hope that he was on the precipice of becoming one of the elite first baseman in the game.

Unfortunately, it didn’t happen.  In fact, it wasn’t even close.  The 2010 season, while solid in many ways, fell well short of expectations:

Sure, it’s been a little while since the Cubbies have won the NL Pennant, but I’m telling you, this is the year! The pieces are starting to come together, and it’s all happening with the pitching rotation.
