Hall of Fame MLB pitcher Goose Gossage has been a vocal opponent of some of the elements that have seeped into the modern era of baseball.  

Baseball Hall of Famer Goose Gossage let his dissatisfaction with the current state of Major League Baseball be known during a tirade Thursday in which he went after Jose Bautista, per Andrew Marchand of ESPN.com. 

Legendary Major League Baseball reliever Goose Gossage is joining the chorus of people who believe bat flips and analytics are evil and have no place in the sport. 

The 1980s is the only decade in the history of Major League Baseball with three relief pitchers in the Hall of Fame.

The 1980s was the decade that we started seeing prevalence with career relief pitching.

In fact, every relief pitcher in this top 10, except one, started in 0-10 percent of their career games.

That’s almost like today.

There are certainly some important differences in today’s relief pitching and the relief pitching of the 80s. One difference, relief pitchers of the 80s chewed up more innings.

The group of baseball bloggers known as Baseball Bloggers Alliance (BBA) announced today a partnership with former Yankees reliever Goose Gossage. The Hall of Fame reliever agreed to lend his name to the organization.

BBA is naming one of their annual postseason awards after Gossage. The award that goes to the top relief pitcher in each league will be called the Goose Gossage Award.

As most of you know by now, the Yankees moved into a brand new stadium last season. The old Yankee Stadium is being torn down to make way for a large park that is expected to include baseball fields, a track, tennis courts, and more. Only one gate remains from the original 1923 Yankee Stadium.

That gate is Gate 2.

Yankee Stadium is currently being torn down and Gate 2 is expected to go with it.

It’s the bottom of the 11th.  The New York Yankees vs. the Boston Red Sox, game seven in the American League Championship Series. Aaron Boone steps to the plate and hits a walk off home run to left field, sending the Yankees to yet another World Series appearance.

And that’s just one recent memory. The list goes on and on. For every Yankee fan, there is a group of defining moments that occurred at the old Yankee stadium that blur the lines between sports and miracles, routine and impossibility.
