Basbeall analyst Ken Rosenthal reported Sunday that the New York Mets and the Kansas City Royals are in talks about trading Oliver Perez to Kansas City.

In return, the Mets would get veteran pitcher Gil Meche, who is currently rehabbing after his injury.

This trade would be dead even if it is made, as both are in their last year in their contracts, with each left with $12 million.

Not only is that situation similar, stats wise, too.

Perez and Meche are both 0-4, and their ERAs are hovering around above 6.

Buster Olney passes on a rumor that the Giants had scouts eyeing the Royals’ Jose Guillen. Sigh!

One of the definitions of an idiot is someone who cannot learn from his mistakes.  Guillen isn’t worth anything more than a single B-grade prospect, if that, but he’s exactly the type of overrated psuedo-power hitter Giants GM Brian Sabean has overrated so many times in the past.

It’s really unbelievable. The Kansas City Royals just can’t catch a break. Even when one of their best trade chips is having his best season, something goes wrong.

The Royals got some bad news on Friday when they learned that outfielder David DeJesus will be out for the year.

DeJesus will undergo season-ending surgery on Monday to repair a torn ligament in his right thumb.

DeJesus hurt the thumb when he crashed into the wall at Yankee Stadium on Thursday night.

I felt ashamed at the Royals this weekend. Maybe it was because I was out of town and they missed their biggest fan, that's why they sucked.

Maybe it's because Oakland just recently gained permission from the MLB to use steroids, so the Royals had no chance due to unfair advantages.

No, the playing field was level; there was one difference between the two teams.

Oakland came to play and wanted it more. 

It’s time to check in on three more prospects from around the minor leagues.  Are any of them primed to make an impact in the not too distant future?  Let’s take a look:

There appear to be two sides forming among Royals fans in the Kansas City Metro area.

Local talk radio is buzzing about the Royals (for a change), their recent encouraging performances, and the fact that good fortune has finally begun to shine on them.

When a franchise is as parched for wins as this one is, the assumption is that the fan base would be eager to jump on the bandwagon.

There have been a lot of trade rumors surrounding the Royals’ David DeJesus, but should fantasy owners care?  Will his value change dramatically if he were to be playing for a contender?

It’s been reported that the Giants will be sending about $2 million along with Bengie Molina to Texas, which means the Giants got almost nothing for him unless Chris Ray ends up surprising almost everyone.

Considered a potential first round selection, Will Meyers’ asking price caused him to fall to the third round of the 2009 draft where the Royals happily selected him.  Currently listed as a catcher, there has been some talk that he may ultimately move out from behind the plate, possibly to the outfield.  What he’s proven early on in 2010, however, is that his bat should translate anywhere on the diamond:

Here’s an article from mlbtraderumors.com which states that the MLB Players’ Association is not opposed to the idea of allowing teams to trade draft picks.  Neither am I.
