For the last five seasons, the Brewers have always had a dangerous lineup, but the pitching hasn't always been there.  They went out and traded for Zack Greinke and Shaun Marcum.  To go along with Yovani Gallardo and Randy Wolf, Milwaukee has one of the better rotations in the National League.

The Brewers made the postseason in 2008 because they went out and got CC Sabathia before the trade deadline.

Brewers’ third baseman Casey McGehee proved his 2009 rookie campaign was no fluke last season, blasting 23 HRs with 104 RBI and a .285 batting average.

But nobody seemed to notice.

Spring training is under way, and we can now take a much more in-depth look at what the regular season holds in store.

Last season, we were fortunate enough to watch dominating pitching take over the landscape of Major League Baseball; and this season looks to be the same.

With ample amounts of solid arms in last year's playoffs, run production (believe it or not) was few and far between for some ball clubs.

However, for a vast majority of teams without such talent on the mound, last season was a forgettable one.

Despite all the excitement and anticipation of the upcoming season for Milwaukee Brewer fans, there is still a sense of impending doom.

With the additions of Zack Greinke and Shaun Marcum to the rotation, the Brewers have positioned themselves as a legitimate threat for the NL Central crown.

However, the 2011 season will also serve as Prince Fielder's last with the team.

No one gives you more insight into the game of baseball than Zack Greinke—probably even without him knowing it.

He tells you about going through emotional problems, his attitude before and after the problems, his Cy Young experience, his beef with the Royals, his trade demands and being a Brewer. If there is any pro ball player that does what Greinke does, let me know and I'll make a slideshow on that player.

There is a Facebook fan group that has all of his quotes, and he didn't waste any time in Milwaukee continuing his great quote streak.

After last year's disappointing finish, Doug Melvin's plan was clear.. Milwaukee needed more pitching in order to compete in the NL Central. The Cardinals had a formidable rotation and the Reds were returning a strong club.

He first traded for Toronto Blue Jays ace Shaun Marcum. A proven innings eater, Marcum can keep hitters off balance and still pitch effectively with a fastball in the high 80's.

Next came the trade for Zack Greinke. The Brewers gave up four top prospects for Greinke and Yuni Betancourt, but Melvin wanted to win now.

With the recent misfortune of the St. Louis Cardinals losing ace right-hander and 20-game winner Adam Wainwright, most of the "experts" are predicting a more open National League Central race for 2011. 

Funny, but I don't remember the Cardinals taking the Central last year with Wainwright. 

Shaun Marcum broke through in 2010. He finally suprassed 30 starts, albeit after missing 2009 entirely, and was a top 15 AL pitcher. With a nearly 4/1 K/BB ratio, a 1.15 WHIP, and less hits than innings pitched (in the AL East no less), Marcum showed he is ready for prime time.

Now, a year later, with the Jays in salary cutting mode after unloading Vernon Wells, Marcum finds himself a key member as a top three starter for the early season NL Central favorite Milwaukee.

Milwaukee's lack of pitching proved to be too much for them to overcome in 2010.

Milwaukee ended the season third in the NL Central at 77-85. With the additions of Shaun Marcum and Zach Greinke this offseason, Milwaukee heads into this season with a ton of optimism.
