The Boston Red Sox used their fourth-round pick to select Missouri State outfielder Tate Matheny, the son of St. Louis Cardinals manager Mike Matheny, Tuesday.  

Brian MacPherson of the Providence Journal noted the selection:

From a talent perspective, Duke starting pitcher and right-hander Michael Matuella was one of the most intriguing players in the 2015 MLB draft. But injuries caused him to fall down the board before the Texas Rangers selected him in the third round.

Background

The 2015 MLB draft continues on Tuesday with seven more rounds. Shortstops were the name of the game on the first day of selections, with players from that key position occupying the first three slots and several more throughout the first two rounds.

The first two rounds and 75 selections are in the books after an eventful Monday night, but there is plenty of big league-caliber talent still on the board.

The action picks up once again Tuesday at 1 p.m. ET with Rounds 3-10 as hundreds more amateur players will see their names called and their pro careers begin.

It often takes years for prospects to make an impact in Major League Baseball, but there is no question that several teams improved their future outlook significantly during Monday's first round of the 2015 MLB draft.

The first day of the Major League Baseball draft is where stars come from, but it's on the second day, featuring Rounds 2-10, when all of the scouting work can take a franchise from the doldrums to a championship. 

With the first day of the 2015 MLB draft having come and gone, baseball fans are now looking ahead to the future and asking some big questions regarding their favorite team's top picks.

The MLB draft especially lends itself to a more forward-thinking, inquisitive mindset since it will at least another two or three years before a lot of the big names start hitting the majors.

Although it takes a while for top baseball prospects to become household names, every franchise is looking for a brighter future through the MLB draft.

Unlike the NBA or NFL draft, where players are expected to contribute right away, those taken in the baseball draft—whether they come from high school or college—often need seasoning in the minors. Still, there are plenty of players available with tons of upside on the mound, in the field or at the plate.
