The Washington Nationals will be without one of their key hitters and leaders in the coming days, as first baseman Ryan Zimmerman was placed on the 15-day disabled list with a wrist injury.

The Nationals announced that Zimmerman was placed on the DL retroactive to Aug. 1, and his injury is officially being characterized as a left wrist contusion.

Ambidextrous pitcher Pat Venditte has been dealt from the Toronto Blue Jays to the Seattle Mariners in a waiver trade.  

The Blue Jays officially announced the move, adding they will be receiving a player to be named later. 

The Miami Marlins beefed up their bullpen Saturday, as they reportedly acquired reliever Hunter Cervenka in a trade with the Atlanta Braves.

Tommy Stokke of FanRag Sports initially reported the trade. Ken Rosenthal of Fox Sports later confirmed the move.

Los Angeles Dodgers outfielder Yasiel Puig has largely been a mystery since he made his MLB debut in 2013.

He has flashed unbelievable talent and athleticism that suggests he could be among baseball’s best to play the game. But off-the-field drama, injuries and a questionable work ethic have gotten in the way of that.

This past week, the Dodgers decided he will have to figure it out elsewhere, at least for the time being.

The team demoted him to Triple-A.

Oakland Athletics strength and conditioning coach Michael Henriques is under investigation by Major League Baseball for reportedly spying on players and personnel.  

Free-agent outfielder Nate Schierholtz has been suspended 80 games by Major League Baseball for violating the league's joint drug agreement.

Per Craig Calcaterra of Hardball Talk, MLB announced that Schierholtz tested positive for the growth hormone Ibutamoren.

Since Schierholtz is not currently with an MLB team, his suspension will not begin until after he signs a deal, if that happens.

New Texas Rangers catcher Jonathan Lucroy confirmed Friday his decision to veto a potential trade to the Cleveland Indians before the deadline was due to lingering uncertainty about the 2017 season.
