When asked about Joe Ross’ dominance this season, Washington Nationals manager Dusty Baker elected to offer a simple explanation.

“He’s good,” he said of the Washington starting pitcher. “It’s simple as that. He works the strike zone. Has a good sinker, good slider and this guy is going to be good for a long time.”

Washington Nationals manager Dusty Baker is a fan of Bryce Harper. And, apparently, corporal punishment. 

The Los Angeles Angels have acquired infielder Brendan Ryan in a trade with the Washington Nationals, the team announced on Tuesday. 

The Nationals will receive cash considerations in return, per MASNsports.com's Mark Zuckerman. 

Ryan has spent nine years in the majors, most recently with the New York Yankees where he appeared in 106 games in two seasons. 

Agent Scott Boras may not be done directing his clients to stay with the Washington Nationals after securing a seven-year, $175 million extension for starting pitcher Stephen Strasburg on Tuesday, per MLB.com's Bill Ladson.

Kansas City Royals prospect Raul Mondesi has been suspended 50 games for violating the joint drug agreement. 

Toronto Blue Jays minor league pitcher Clinton Hollon has been suspended 50 games for a positive drug test. 

Shi Davidi of Sportset.ca reported Tuesday that Hollon received 50 games following his second failed test for a drug of abuse.
