If we were to pitch a show about Major League Baseball's best starting pitchers to HBO, it would obviously be called True Aces. That's the easy part.

But we're here to consider what would be the hard part: casting it.

In a landscape so densely populated with dominant starting pitchers, it's hard to separate the regular aces from the true aces. Lest we water down what should be an exclusive club, we need ground rules.

It was hard to call Steven Matz the key to the New York Mets rotation on a day when Matt Harvey went to the doctor and the team wouldn't say what was wrong with him.

There's just one way to explain Andrew McCutchen "only" finishing fifth in the National League MVP voting in 2015. The guy just had an off year. Sad, but true.

But from the looks of things, 2015 is about to be ancient history.

The Houston Astros reportedly added some catching depth Monday with the 2016 season right around the corner.

According to Jose de Jesus Ortiz of the Houston Chronicle, the Astros traded right-handed pitcher Dan Straily to the San Diego Padres in exchange for catcher Erik Kratz. Ortiz noted Kratz will back up Jason Castro.

Veteran Los Angeles Dodgers pitcher Jamey Wright is hanging up his glove after a 19-year career, according to a Monday report by Ken Gurnick of MLB.com.

Boston Red Sox third baseman Pablo Sandoval is coming off a disappointing 2015 season and is battling with Travis Shaw to be the team's starting option at the position, making Sandoval potentially expendable.
