The New York Yankees are in the market for starting pitching to fortify what was an improved, but nonetheless average, rotation in 2015.

The first big shot of the 2015 MLB offseason has been fired, and the Los Angeles Angels pulled the trigger.

The bullet, to stretch the analogy, is Andrelton Simmons, the slickest-fielding shortstop in the game and now a member of the Halos after Los Angeles and the Atlanta Braves swung a landscape-shifting five-player trade Thursday.

Ever since fully kicking off their rebuild in the winter, the Atlanta Braves have stockpiled young arms to help take the organization into the future. That trend continued Thursday, when the Braves traded Andrelton Simmons to the Los Angeles Angels.

It was no secret that the Atlanta Braves were going to move shortstop Andrelton Simmons, but his destination was a mystery until the trade was finalized.

The Los Angeles Angels swooped in at the last minute and dealt for Simmons. The Braves announced the trade Thursday night, per their Twitter account:

Per Jesse Sanchez of MLB.com, the Los Angeles Angels have landed Andrelton Simmons from the Atlanta Braves, and there's plenty of speculation swirling around other prominent players.

Colby Rasmus reignited his career as a member of the Houston Astros in 2015, so it's no surprise that the 29-year-old has decided to extend his stay with the franchise as the team confirmed on Friday.
