Memo To Mets: Think Big by Spending

Reports circulated that Mets general manager Omar Minaya is hesitant to throw money around in this year's free agent class. His approach is to build around the team with lower-level free agents.

Typically, Minaya loves to target the big names and get them to the dotted line, and he has been successful with that approach, but with the team playing awful these last two years, he felt it was time to go to another direction.

New York Mets: An Outside The Box Offseason Plan

With recent talk that the Mets may not be spending on a top tier free agent, many Mets fans have begun speculating which second tier free agents or trade targets may be a fit.

Meet The Mutts! A Real Plan On Making The New York Mets Respectable

While fans throughout New York City and Northern New Jersey celebrate the 27th World Championship of the New York Yankees, there is a strong and awful odor coming from somewhere nearby.

People stop in the streets, sniff the air, put that "this-is-gross"-look on their faces, try to hide their noses underneath their shirts, and move as quickly as possible to a car or building, anything that will protect them from the smell of rotten eggs in burning garbage.

The smell wafts across the streets of Manhattan, terrorizing the people like a Godzilla stomping the citizens of Tokyo.

New York Mets: New Faces Will Bring Changes to Team in 2010

The GMs of Major League Baseball are meeting this week to review baseball policies and also to lay the groundwork for deals this winter.

Omar Minaya has arrived in Chicago for the meetings and is making it known that he is desperately seeking a power bat in left field and/or first base for 2010.

Every season the Mets make an impact move, Johan Santana in 2008, Francisco Rodriguez in 2009, and Matt Holliday seems the likely choice for the major deal this winter.

Former New York Met Victor Zambrano's Mother Kidnapped

Some sad and alarming news to report this morning out of Venezuela.

According to the Associated Press , the mother of former Mets pitcher Victor Zambrano was kidnapped from the pitcher’s property late last night.

Details of the incident are still very sketchy.

Fantasy GM: What Would I Do if I Were Running the New York Mets?

I’m going to take a slight detour this morning from the traditional fantasy baseball article to put myself in my own little fantasy world.  What if I were the Mets General Manager?  How would I improve a team that was extremely disappointing (there’s an understatement) in 2010?  Let’s take a look:

2010 New York Mets Bullpen Breakdown: Pedro Feliciano

Through all the twists and turns the New York Mets have taken over the past four years, one factor has always remained constant.

That particular factor is relief pitcher, Pedro Feliciano .

Feliciano, who has been a mainstay in the Mets bullpen since his second tour of duty with the team began in 2006, has proven to be one of the most reliable relievers in the National League over the past couple of years.

The 2009 season was no exception.

My Thoughts on the 2010 New York Mets: Third Base

David Wright, is one of the best third basemen in the game of baseball.  The New York Mets are lucky to have a player like him, but he still has his flaws.

Ever since Wright made his debut in the bigs he has pretty much, been a star.  He's got great talent and he can be a pretty good team "Captain."

Wright hits for a high average, hits home runs, and steals a solid amount of bases.  He is a Gold Glover in the field, and an expert at anything that has to do with bare hands.

Two Teams the New York Mets Should Consider Trading With

San Diego Padres

More than any other hitter available on the free agent market, first baseman Adrian Gonzalez would be a perfect fit in the Mets lineup.  Due to salary limitations, San Diego will likely not be able to afford re-signing him when his contract ends after the end of the 2011 season.  Former Padre GM Kevin Towers speculates that Gonzalez will be traded.

New York Mets: Jeff Francoeur Has Thumb Surgery

I know it’s been a rough couple of weeks for the New York Mets fans with the New York Yankees and the Philadelphia Phillies in the World Series, so let’s give them some good news.

Mets rightfielder Jeff Francoeur had surgery on Monday to repair a torn ligament in his right thumb. Francoeur had the surgery in Atlanta.

How is having surgery good news?

Well, this is good news for a couple of reasons. First, and most important, Francoeur will be ready for spring training.
