ALCS 2010: A Texas Sized Beatdown Over The New York Yankees

It almost seemed that it was over before it started. The Texas Rangers' homecoming to an Arlington stadium full of their rowdy fans and a Colby Lewis gem finally put an end to the Yankees' hopes of defending their World Series title.

Unlike Game 5 back in New York, the Yankees didn't have their ace C.C. Sabathia on the mound. Instead, they were relying on a young and relatively inexperience Phil Hughes who had already taken the Game 2 loss when he gave up seven earned runs in only four innings of work.

2010 ALCS: The Texas Rangers Return Home for Game 6, and Why It Ends Tonight

The Rangers' ballpark is quiet, at least for now.

Workers have slowly started to trickle in, the local radio station is doing their broadcast from the home plate entrance, the ALCS banners have been hung for fans to see as they start to file in, and the anticipation has begun.

This Friday night is far different from any other Friday night in Rangers' history, because it's on this Friday night that the Texas Rangers, and their fans, will be able to celebrate a franchise first.

An American League Championship.

ALCS 2010: Win or Go Home As Yankees' Phil Hughes Takes Mound in Pivotal Game 6

After a day off, the ALCS resumes at Rangers Stadium where Texas will host New York in a pivotal Game 6 matchup. Phil Hughes (1-1, 5.73 ERA) will take the mound for the Yankees against the Rangers Colby Lewis (1-0, 1.69 ERA).

Joe DiMaggio Always Rose To the Occasion

Shaking his head and flashing a deprecatory grin, Joe DiMaggio started talking about it again.

"There has to be an element of luck to it," he modestly told a group of baseball writers, "but the one thing that sticks in my mind is that whenever I kept the streak alive with a scratch hit, I always came through in that same game with an honest hit that could not be questioned. That's what made it so satisfying."

ALCS 2010: 5 Ways the New York Yankees Can Pull Out a Series Win

Away from home, down 3-2 in the series, the New York Yankees have their backs against the wall. The Texas Rangers have been phenomenal throughout the series, and they only need one more win to advance to their first World Series in franchise history. But we've seen the Yankees make miraculous comebacks before. Can they do it again?

ALCS 2010: Buffalo, the New York Yankees Are Not Your Friends

I moved back to Buffalo after being gone for 31 years. I guess I’m getting old, but I don’t remember so much interest in the Yankees back then. It’s probably just that my mind is going.

In any case, there are an awful lot of Yankee fans in Buffalo—or else it's just an act of support for locally owned New Era Caps that half the millinery products observed in the Queen City have that overlapping NY logo on them.

Robinson Cano and Josh Hamilton Chasing Another MVP Award

The two regular season favorites for the American League MVP award have continued their battled into the ALCS. Yankees second baseman Robinson Cano and Rangers centerfielder Josh Hamilton are leading their teams as the American League championship heads to Texas for Game 6.

While their performances in the ALCS do not count toward the American League MVP award, they are both leading the charge for the ALCS MVP. All votes are already in for the regular season award that has yet to be announced.

2010 ALCS Game 6: Why A-Rod's Bat Will Decide New York Yankees' Fate

History in sports usually has to do with some sort stat, which can be a predictor for the future regarding similar circumstances.

So, with the Yankees down 2-3 in the ALCS series to the Texas Rangers, it got me thinking of how the bats could stay hot for more than just one game.

ALCS 2010: New York Yankees' Greatest Failure Must Become Rallying Cry

When the final out was recorded in a 19-8 trouncing to put the New York Yankees up 3-0 in the 2004 American League Championship Series, the ‘Curse of the Bambino’ appeared to be alive and well.

In the history of Major League Baseball, no team had ever rallied from a three-game deficit to win a postseason series.
