Interview: John R. Finger looks at the NLDS

The Phils have taken yet another amazing journey to the post-season in 2009. One of the guys who’s been with the team, in the locker room, through pretty much the entire season is John R. Finger from CSNPhilly.com. Finger has been covering the Phils for years for the new and improved Comcast SportsNet website. He’s really captured the pulse of this team in his columns and blogs. I caught up with him this morning, before game one of the NLDS to talk Phils baseball.

Colorado Rockies Drop Game One To Phillies 5-1

The Colorado Rockies opened their postseason in Philadelphia, the same place that they did in 2007. Both teams are essentially full of the same players. Except for one.

Phillies 2009 Playoff Round Table

Fall is in the air, the days are getting shorter, and the Halloween decor is coming out.
But the city’s focus is on other things right now—the baseball team. There’s a buzz on the streets of Philadelphia, as the Phillies are set to begin their third straight October tomorrow against the Rockies at Citizens Bank Park.

When the Phillies get set to take on the Rox tomorrow, we want you all filled in on where the team stands.

Florida Marlins Will Retain Fredi Gonzalez As Manager

According to Clark Spencer of the Miami Herald, the Florida Marlins have decided to retain Fredi Gonzalez as manager of the team.

There was a lot of speculation that Gonzalez’s job was in jeopardy after team executives Larry Beinfest and David Samson deemed the Marlins season as “disappointing.” There were also plenty of rumors that team owner Jeffrey Loria was unhappy with the team not making the playoffs.

Tommy Hanson shuts out Cardinals Trifecta

The St. Louis Cardinals could lock up the Trifecta of Major League Baseball awards MVP, CY Young, and Rookie of the Year. That is until the Braves Tommy Hanson has pitched his way into the Rookie of the year favorite. The Cardinals and fans were hoping Colby Rasmus would end up with the ROY award.

Why Bryce Harper Is Not the Answer to the Nationals' Woes

The Washington Nationals are 19 games away from securing the top pick in baseball’s amateur draft for the second straight season.

Daniel in the Lion's Den

With this season finally drawing to a close, I have spent most of the past six to eight weeks listening to Mets fans and those who cover the Mets in the media trash over and over and over again the Mets first baseman, Daniel Murphy.

To me it's just unbelievable what extremes these fans take when it comes to blame and evaluation of a players year.

Move Over Brian Schneider, The Bell Thole(s) For Thee

The New York Mets aren’t rich with position prospects. Sure they have Fernando Martinez and Wilmer Flores, but that’s really it for top prospects. So when the Mets called up C Joshua Thole, it caught me by surprise.

I wasn’t surprised the Mets were trying to find an internal replacement for the incumbent Brian Schneider. Schneider is a free agent at the end of this year and doesn’t figure to be back with the Mets in 2010.

Chipper Jones Nearing the End of Career?

Chipper Jones may be nearing the end of a potential Hall of Fame career and has a career low .436 slugging percentage this season.

Chipper Jones may be nearing the end of a potential Hall of Fame career and has a career low .436 slugging percentage this season and is hitting .267.

It Was the Summer of '69: When New York Mets Fans Were Happy

The Mets are tired and numb from injuries. They're trailing the Phillies by an impossible 18 games in the NL East. They trail the Colorado Rockies by an equally insurmountable 18-1/2 games in the NL Wild Card race. It's time to put their long, miserable season to sleep.

But not before a bedtime story.

The year is 1969.

The Mets are playing in a new ballpark—playing quite terribly, too. Coming into this season, New York has gone a dismal 321-648 since the opening of their new stadium. Shea Stadium.
