Colorado Rockies Pull Out Nail-Biter, Ubaldo Jimenez Picks Up 14th Win

With an 8-0 lead heading into the bottom of the sixth inning and Ubaldo Jimenez yet to give up a hit, it seemed like the Rockies would cruise to victory. That was hardly the case, as Colorado held on for a 10-6 victory.

The Padres, acting like the pesky little sister who won't go away, not only notched their first hit of the night against Jimenez in the sixth inning, they scored four runs to crawl back in the game.

B.J. Upton, Evan Longoria Get Into It in the Dugout

Sunday was one of those days that Tampa Bay Rays’ OF B.J. Upton would rather soon forget. Not only did he go 0-for-3, but when he did get on base with a walk, he got picked off. Then he flew out to end the game. But the worst thing that happened to Upton, was that he and Evan Longoria got into a heated argument in the dugout.

Colorado Rockies: Back To Business as Usual

First Inning Dooms Rockies in Anaheim

After two nights of playing games that lasted over four hours, the Rockies played a game that lasted just 2:15. Unfortunately for the Rox, they lost the game 4-2.

Aaron Cook had seven great innings of baseball. Unfortunately, he was in the game for eight innings.

In the bottom of the first inning, Cook gave up a grand slam to Hideki Matsui, a veteran player who is not a stranger to the big slam. It was his fourth in America after he hit eight in his career in Japan.

Jonathan Herrera Shows Rockies Depth, Leads the Way to Victory

The Colorado Rockies have proven two facts over the past two nights. First, that baseball is not a game for those who like to go to bed early, and second, that the Rockies have as much depth as advertised.

On Friday night in Anaheim, the Rockies beat the Angels 4-3 thanks in large part to Jonathan Herrera. The second baseman finished the night 3-for-6. He scored the tying run and drove in the game-winning run.

Arizona's Edwin Jackson Battles Wildness To Throw Improbable No-Hitter vs. Rays

Pitchers are babied in the modern era. Years and years ago, the starting pitcher was expected to throw complete games. They tossed 300-plus pitchers a season and their average pitch count was well in the hundreds. For one night, for one game, baseball went back to those roots.

San Diego Padres News and Notes: Team Acquires Infielder Kyle Phillips

While the San Diego Padres are locked in a scoreless battle with the Toronto Blue Jays on Friday night, I figured we'd get an update on the team as they made what I would call a minor move earlier today.

According to Jordan Bastian of MLB.com, via Twitter , the Padres acquired catcher/infielder Kyle Phillips from the Blue Jays for a player to be named later.

San Francisco Giants' Matt Cain: The Kid's Quiet Evolution Continues

Take a peek at the San Francisco Giants' active roster and you'll see a curious thing. You'll see Pablo Sandoval and Buster Posey checking in at a green 23 years of age—the Kung Fu Panda's birthday is coming up in August whereas Gerald Demp the Third just had his in March.

There's also newbie reliever Dan Runzler, who's recently turned a grizzled 25.

MLB Trade Rumors 2010: San Francisco Giants' Hot Stove

The second place San Francisco Giants are good enough to win the National League West as is.

Yes, with a pitching staff that features two Cy Young candidates, nobody is denying that.

But to make a serious run in the post-season, the Giants are going to need some additional help.

Ranked No. 19 in home runs and No. 24 in runs batted in, San Francisco can't continue to expect flawless pitching from its staff.

Cliff Lee's As Good As Gone

The assorted scouts who assembled at Safeco Field on Wednesday to watch another gem from Cliff Lee had to be foaming at the mouth in anticipation of what the ace could bring to their respective teams: a top-of-the-line pitcher who is an instant difference maker.

It’s no secret that Lee will not be a Mariner past the trade deadline, especially when he keeps putting up starts like he did against the Cubs.
