Rockies Can't Let All-Star Break Steal Their Thunder

Saturday night in Cincinnati was not unfamiliar to the Rockies.

Unfortunately for fans in Colorado, it was not reminiscent of the Rockies team that completed an 8-2 homestand before the All-Star break; it was the team who took the field in April and May. The Rockies dropped their second straight game to the Reds 8-1.

To make playoffs, Rockies must be clutch

The Colorado Rockies finished the first half of the 2010 season ten games above .500 and two games behind the San Diego Padres in the National League West race.

Props to F. P. Santangelo

As Giants fans know, F. P. Santangelo is the Giants’ fifth radio/TV announcer.  He provides “color” when the team needs a fifth announcer, which doesn’t happen all that often since Jon Miller, Dave Fleming, Mike Krukow, and Duane Kuiper can usually handle both radio and TV on any given date.

San Francisco Giants Minor League Notes

The guy who looks like the Giants’ top prospect is at Class A Augusta, 20-year-old right-handed starter Jorge Bucardo, who has slumped the last two weeks.  His ERA has risen to 2.38, although he allowed only one run in seven innings pitched on Wednesday.

MLB Trade Rumors: Los Angeles Dodgers Hope Roster Moves Pay Dividends

In a few surprising roster shuffles surrounding the MLB All-Star break, the Los Angeles Dodgers made several efforts to upgrade their pitching—at least until they seal a deal before the trade deadline.

In an unexpected move on Sunday, the Dodgers optioned RHP John Ely to Triple-A Albuquerque and replaced him on the roster with reliever Jon Link.

Ely is 4-7 with a 4.63 ERA in 14 starts overall this season; however, he has failed to pitch three complete innings in his last two outings.

San Francisco Giants Sign Dontrelle Willis

It was just announced the Giants signed lefty Dontrelle Willis to play for their AAA team, the Fresno Grizzlies.  While the adult in me thinks Dontrelle’s arm is shot, the kid in me loves this move.

I’ve always been a big fan of Dontrelle.  He’s from Oakland, just across the Bay from San Fran, and I just liked everything about him as a player.

MLB Half-Time: Who's Hot and Who's Not in the NL

Let's continue with summing up the wild first-half of the MLB season, by looking at the National League.

One thing is for sure, the NL is no longer “the other” league in baseball. The NL is providing plenty of drama and talent to compete with their AL counterparts.

All Star 2010:Ubaldo Jimenez Leads What Should Be Three Colorado Rockies

Ubaldo Jimenez is without a doubt the best pitcher in all of Major League Baseball this season.

His 15-1 record is easily the top mark in the majors, while his 2.20 ERA is fifth best among pitchers with 10+ decisions.

His three complete games include a no-hitter versus the Atlanta Braves, which is the first ever in the Colorado Rockies’ 18-year franchise history.

How the Los Angeles Dodgers Can Dominate the Second Half

Whether it was Rafael Furcal's sizzling bat, Jonathon Broxton's overpowering pitching, or Andre Ethier's clutch hitting, the boys in blue performed exceptionally throughout the first half of their season.

However, numerous injuries and continual struggles within the pitching staff have obstructed their consistency.

It's difficult to determine whether the buzz generated about their chances to contend in the NL are too hasty or totally warranted.

A multitude of factors will contribute to the Dodgers' goals ultimately coming to fruition.

Rolling Rocks: Rockies Make a Statement With Win Over Padres

Just another day at work for the Rockies.

A 4-2 victory over the NL West-leading San Diego Padres at Coors Field on Saturday night. The victory moved the Rockies to within just one game of taking the lead.

The game was yet another example of just how deep this Rockies organization is.

Jason Hammel, the Rockies' fifth starter, continued his dominance. The righty, picked up off the Tampa Bay trash heap, pitched 6-1/3 strong innings.
