Phillies Are Fortunate to Be at .500

Lest you think that the Philadelphia sports scene is all sunshine, lollipops, and rainbows these days, let me point out a sobering truth. The Phillies have not played well at all this season.

In fact, I find it just short of amazing that they are even at .500 through 32 games, roughly 20 percent of the season.

When is enough for David Ortiz?

This is a situation that I was not too eager to broach, but now that it's the halfway mark into May and the home-run total by David Ortiz matches my career total, it's time.

When do the Red Sox make a change with David Ortiz?

All Hat, No Cowboy: Another Brian Wilson Debacle Stifles the Giants

What are the prerequisites needed to be a major league closer?

Imposing on-the-field demeanor. Check.

Uniquely wild-looking haircut. Check.

Tattoo sleeves. Check.

Personal introduction music. Check.

Blindingly fast heater. Check.

Ability to consistently mow down the opposing team's lineup and preserve the victory.

Fail.

Coming off yet another game that has blown up in his face, Giants closer Brian Wilson has again seemingly snatched defeat from the jaws of victory.

Trey Hillman: Reversing the Trend

2006 – Trey Hillman leads the Hokkaido Nippon Ham Fighters to their first Pacific League Championship in 25 years.

2010 – Try Hillman leads the Kansas City Royals to their first World Series Championship in 25 years.

…it could happen.

Come To Think of It: Should the NY Mets Trade Reyes? No Way Jose

New York Daily News writer John Harper claims in his latest piece, that it may be time for the New York Mets to consider trading shortstop Jose Reyes.

I say, "No Way, Jose"

Can Reyes be erratic with the glove at times? Sure. Does he make base running blunders from time to time? Yes he does.

Getting in Touch with Mike Veeck, One of Baseball's True Legends

I’m obsessed with baseball. I mean, really obsessed.

If I didn’t have a girlfriend, I would still be living in my mother’s house collecting baseball cards, playing fantasy baseball, and Tivo’ing every game I could. It’s really good that Katlyn’s here to keep that in check.

Trust me, I know I’m a weirdo. And I’m okay with it.

Big Papi = Big Problem: The Sudden Decline of the AL's Feared Hitter

Yesterday's line for David Ortiz: 0-for-7 3 K's and 11 men left on base.  Two balls were hit  out of the infield.  What a sad, yet telling day for the Red Sox power hitter. Off to another terrible start, David Ortiz single-handedly lost the game for the Sox yesterday afternoon in Anaheim.

Ortiz left the bases loaded twice, once grounding slowly out to first and the second time tapping back to the mound.

I Take Over Bud Selig's Job for a Day

Bud Selig has been ripped and praised over his long tenure as baseball's commish. Probably his most drawn out headache would be about his players and performance enhancing drugs.

He hasn't really done much it seems to the common fan. Yes he's had suspensions and punishments put in place, but the problem is players are still using them year after year after year.

And no I'm not talking about Icy Hot or allergy medication. If I were Bud Selig, this is how things would go down.

Philadelphia Phils' Slide Starts at the Top

It’s time for Jimmy Rollins to show some pride.

We’re now halfway through May, and he’s still hitting a paltry .200. He continues to roll over ball after ball, essentially playing pepper with the second baseman. Never can I remember a time in which he gave away so many at-bats by swinging at bad pitches and flat out missing the good ones.

What Is Wrong With Scott Baker?

During the off-season, Scott Baker signed a four year, $15.25 million deal. Other than a few Joe Mays-related rumblings, the public response to this deal was quite positive.

Why wouldn't it be? Baker was coming off of his best season as a professional, going 11-4 with a 3.45 ERA and 141 strikeouts. He held batters to a .247 BAA and posted a WHIP of just 1.17.
