The Boston Red Sox should forget about injury-plagued Mike Napoli and just get Nick Swisher on the roster. 

The Oakland A's have a new sensation in Japanese shortstop Hiroyuki Nakajima, a man who is completely smitten with his general manager, Billy Beane. 

Then again, he may just be a smitten kitten over the man who played Billy Beane in Moneyball, Brad Pitt.  

There's no arms race going on in the AL East, as there's really only one team stockpiling weapons.

While the Detroit Tigers outbid the Chicago Cubs and signed right-hander Anibal Sanchez to a five-year, $80 million deal, it will prove to be a blessing that the Cubs did not end up acquiring the 28-year-old.

Having been one of the busiest teams in free agency during this offseason, the Boston Red Sox appear nearly set as they head into spring training. However, it’s still possible that their inability to tie up a loose end may force them to make another major acquisition.

According to Brittany Ghiroli of MLB.com, the Cleveland Indians have agreed on a one-year contract for corner infielder Mark Reynolds. The deal is valued at $6 million, but could be worth as much as $7.5 million if he reaches certain performance bonuses.  

One of the prevailing questions of this offseason has been "Where are the New York Yankees?"

In past years, the Yankees presumably would have pushed stacks of money across the table at free agents like Josh Hamilton, Zack Greinke and Anibal Sanchez. They would have chased down R.A. Dickey, instead of watching him go to a division rival in Toronto. 

Two years ago, Brian Wilson established himself as one of the best closers in baseball by saving 48 games in the regular season and then helping the San Francisco Giants win the World Series.

Now he's out of a job after being non-tendered, and he's looking for a team to take a chance on him less than a year removed from the second Tommy John operation of his career.

After trading shortstop Cliff Pennington to Arizona for outfielder Chris Young and losing Pennington's eventual successor Stephen Drew in free agency to the Boston Red Sox, the Oakland A's once again took to the international market to fill a void.

With the announcement that Alex Rodriguez needed hip surgery, as a New York Yankees fan, I was strangely excited. Finally the Yankees would use this opportunity to get younger on the diamond, I thought. We could let an unproven young talent take over for a few months and see if we had the next Derek Jeter on our hands.

Boy was I wrong.
