For 15 years, Derek Jeter has worn the immortal pinstripes. In that time, he has made a name for himself, becoming the first Yankees captain since the retirement of Don Mattingly, bringing the world renowned New York Yankees five more titles and ultimately becoming the Yankees all-time hit leader and becoming 74 hits away from baseball immortality with 3,000 hits.

While the Mets starting rotation will likely contain several question marks, the bullpen appears to be a revolving door at this point. Two vital pieces from 2010 are likely out, with Hisanori Takahashi heading out west and Pedro Feliciano testing the free agent market.

Following the non-tender deadline, many serviceable bullpen arms will become available. Some of these candidates may come on the cheaper side and on short term deals, both aspects the Mets would be looking for.

Well, it finally happened. Adam Dunn has gone the way of Al Capone, making his living on the South side of Chicago.

And at $14 million per year for four years, he's making Capone-type money too.

Now, let's be objective for just a moment. This is like that time our favorite girlfriend jilted us, and we hurt and were angry, but didn't see at the time that it was the best thing that could have happened.

According to various reports, The Chicago White Sox have pulled off the tremendous coup of slugger Adam Dunn.  Sports Illustrated's Jon Heyman reported earlier on his Twitter account that terms of the deal are said to be $56 million over four years.

Please do not wake me; it is such a peaceful slumber.

Now the question yielded is should the Mariners make a run at him?

It's the time of year when team general managers travel south in hopes of warm weather and the free agents hope for even warmer checkbooks.

While much of baseball's offseason has centered on big moves by the Florida Marlins, Detroit Tigers and Los Angeles Dodgers, there are still plenty of big name free agents available and plenty of teams with deep pockets and big needs hoping to lure them in.

This sure got ugly, didn't it? Who could have seen this coming?

The Yankees arguing about money with their captain. Everybody knows money doesn't mean anything to the Yankees, just get him signed already Cashman!

Funny thing is if money really doesn't mean anything to the Yankees it makes signing Jeter long term even worse. When you take money out of the equation it comes down to an even more precious commodity in baseball: playing time.

Brian Sabean has done it again.

This time he has gone out and filled the San Francisco Giants' only real hole by signing shortstop Miguel Tejada to a one-year deal. 

Tejada, a former MVP, is now 36 and at the tail end of his career. 

So the question is, is Tejada the right man to help the Giants repeat?

The well-documented, off-season story regarding free agent pitcher Cliff Lee has gained so much intensity, multiple radio stations in Dallas are broadcasting hourly updates on the sweepstakes to sign the coveted previous Cy Young winner.

Just don't expect a one-hour special on ESPN announcing Lee's decision. It's not his style.

Neither are the bright lights of New York City.
