The State of the Union for the San Francisco Giants is slightly north of bleak.

With 10 games left in the pennant race, it looks like two, possibly three teams stand in the way of the Giants and their first playoff appearance since 2003.

What is probably closer to the truth, the Giants are also standing in their own way.

At various points throughout the 2010 season, we have already seen the "here today, gone tomorrow" offense, no matter who seemed to be in the lineup.

What more can be said? How much more clear does it have to be made?

The Philadelphia Phillies have made an authoritative, boisterous statement.

Doesn't matter what the fans of the Philadelphia Phillies think, doesn't matter what the Atlanta Braves fans think, the Philadelphia Phillies, are indeed, the team to beat in the NL.

Joe Torre is as New York as Broadway and the Meatpacking District combined.

He’s an Italian man that was born there, played there, managed there, earned his fame and fortune there, became a champion there, and damn if he ain’t going to die there, too.

The pitching has held up its end of the bargain and is pitching like a playoff team should. Not so much for the offense.

San Francisco has not allowed more than three runs in 16 straight games. This is tied for the fifth longest streak since 1900. They have thrown four shutouts during the streak.

This is going to kill me because I am a die-hard New York Yankees fan, but in the pessimistic would that I live in, I can see the Yankees blowing it with ten games remaining and two big series coming up with their arch rival Boston Red Sox.
