Through The Eyes Of...The Bullpen Catcher

The following is part of a weekly series called "Through the Eyes of..."  In each segment, I share interviews with or stories about those who I view to be the "Good Guys." The men and women who participate in and are the very fiber that make up the great game of baseball.

"Through the Eyes of..." is a part of my personal crusade to present baseball in all its beauty, splendor, and goodness, instead of through hashing and rehashing all that is broken with our national treasure. TC

Philadelphia-Colorado: Awful Umpiring Helps Phillies Get the Call in Game Three

I would like to first off thank the inventor of DVR. It really is one of the best inventions ever. It allows you to watch shows, programs on sporting events on your time.

Last night I used this wonderful invention to record Game Three of the Philadelphia Phillies-Colorado Rockies series last night. With the game starting at 10:00 ET, there was no way I was staying up to watch this game.

I watched the first four innings last night, woke up this morning, and watched the remaining five innings. Truly fantastic.

'Cuse Me: Um, Yankees, TBS, Can the Phillies Play Now?

I saw and heard the strangest thing early Monday morning.

At about 2 a.m. EDT Monday, I saw a stadium full of about 50,000 people strangely quiet. No, I did not wake out of a sound sleep. It was not a religious function and the preacher was giving a sermon.

Nope.

It was a freakin' baseball game.

Much of the East coast was asleep, my wife was asleep, my daughter, who didn't have school the next day, went to bed in the fifth innning and my cat was asleep.

NLDS Game Three Postponed Due to Snow

Major League Baseball announced early this morning that Saturday night’s game will be postponed. Game three will be played during the scheduled time for game four, Sunday night at 8:07 Mountain Time.

Phillies-Rockies Postpone Game Three

Game Three of the National League Division Series between the Philadelphia Phillies and the Colorado Rockies was postponed Saturday night because of cold, snowy weather.

Major League Baseball rescheduled the game for Sunday night at 10:07 p.m. ET, and Game Four was pushed back to Monday. Game Five, if necessary, will be played as scheduled on Tuesday in Philadelphia, without a day off for travel.

The series is tied at one game each.

Phils' Pedro Martinez No Stranger to Pressure in Game Three NLDS

AUTHOR'S NOTE: MARTINEZ'S SCHEDULE START ON SATURDAY WAS POSTPONED DUE TO SNOW. J.A. HAPP IS DUE TO START SUNDAY. MARTINEZ MAY OR MAY NOT START IN THE BALANCE OF THIS SERIES OR BE MOVED TO THE BULLPEN.

The year is 1999 and in the deciding game of the ALDS, Boston Red Sox pitcher Pedro Martinez enters an 8-8 game in the fourth inning in the contest against the Cleveland Indians.

Phillies Fans Celebrate Team's Successful Return to Baseball Playoffs

The early morning rain had faded, but a strong wind remained as I prepared to go to my first Phillies game since Jul. 9, 2008.

A veteran of Opening Day in Philadelphia, my good buddy was meeting me to go to see the opening round game of the Phillies vs. the Colorado Rockies today, Oct. 7 at Citizens Bank Park in Philadelphia.

I arrived first and attended a pre-game rally, shown above. The Phillie Phanatic was on stage, as well as the band and several young ladies in Phillies gear. The Phanatic shot Phillies gear out of a long-nose funnel gun into the crowd.

Cliff Lee Dominates Rockies: Phillies Win Game One

If the Philadelphia Phillies keep getting starting pitching throughout the postseason like what they got from Cliff Lee on Wednesday afternoon, it won’t matter that their bullpen is a mess.
Lee completely dominated the Colorado Rockies today in Game One of their National League Division Series.

Interview: John R. Finger looks at the NLDS

The Phils have taken yet another amazing journey to the post-season in 2009. One of the guys who’s been with the team, in the locker room, through pretty much the entire season is John R. Finger from CSNPhilly.com. Finger has been covering the Phils for years for the new and improved Comcast SportsNet website. He’s really captured the pulse of this team in his columns and blogs. I caught up with him this morning, before game one of the NLDS to talk Phils baseball.

Colorado Rockies Drop Game One To Phillies 5-1

The Colorado Rockies opened their postseason in Philadelphia, the same place that they did in 2007. Both teams are essentially full of the same players. Except for one.
