Outreach of Hope: The Dave Dravecky Story—Relay for Life Part Two

"As time passes, my story fades away."

-Dave Dravercky

Dave Dravecky made his major-league debut with the San Diego Padres on June 15th, 1982.

Padres-DBacks: Padres Use Huge Comeback to Win Tenth Straight

This can't be the same San Diego Padres team that lost 18 of 22 games through the first few weeks of May, it just can't be.

Well, you can keep telling yourself that, but the San Diego Padres came from six runs behind to defeat the Arizona Diamondbacks 9-7, capped by a big two run home run from left fielder Chase Headley in the top half of the tenth inning off Arizona reliever Tony Pena.

Padres 7, Cubs 2: The Lost Week

Well, the Cubs put the cap on a perfect road trip Sunday—perfect as in 0-6—by losing 7-2 to the Padres at Petco Field. The Cubs now have dropped seven in a row, and sit at .500 for the season.

You know, over the course of a season every team has a seven to 10-day period we'd all like to forget about—usually at least two. Consider the Cubs.

Will the Cardinals Make a Play for Peavy?

It is never good to be on a team that wants to deal you to another city. Despite this, San Diego Padres starting pitcher Jake Peavy decided to stay with his team after a deal was made between the Padres and White Sox on Thursday, making use of his no-trade clause.

Peavy signed an extension with San Diego in 2007, and will be a Padre through 2012 barring a successful trade. The extension also came with a $22 million team option for 2013. Peavy turns 28 next Sunday, and will be 31 years old in May 2012.

Padres-Cubs: Padres Win Ninth Straight Behind Young's Arm, Bat

Chris Young is known for being a strong right-handed arm and a stopper when the team is on a losing streak and they need a big start, but he's not known for being a hitter.

Apparently, someone forgot to tell Young that.

The San Diego Padres Injury Report in Pictures

With the San Diego Padres in the midst of an eight game win streak and doing so without a few key parts, how much better could this team really get once they get these parts back.

We'll look at the injuries to Cliff Floyd, Everth Cabrera, Mike Adams and a few others and realize that this team is winning and once they get a few of these players back from injury, they could really contend in the NL West.

They get stronger with Mike Adams in the bullpen, they get faster with the return of Everth Cabrera and they get stronger with the bat of Cliff Floyd.

Padres-Cubs: Padres Win Seventh Straight Behind Peavy's Dominance

Jake Peavy came out with something to prove, to show why the Padres should keep him, why they can win with him at the helm as a leader.

If General Manager Kevin Towers' eyes weren't open before, they were after the dominant performance by the Padres' ace against the Cubs on Friday night. Peavy gave up just two hits and struck out 10 through six innings of work and got strong pitching from the bullpen as the Padres won their seventh straight, shutting out the Cubs, 4-0.

Jake Peavy Plays Hard To Get

It hurt this offseason when Jake Peavy turned down my favorite team, the Atlanta Braves.

Your turn to feel the wrath of Peavy, Chicago.

The Chicago White Sox join the list of jilted suitors of the San Diego Padres' ace.

When Peavy turned down President Barack Obama's favorite team, my only conclusion was that Peavy was headed to the eventual destination of most big-time players looking for lots of money: Boston or New York.

UPDATE: Peavy Says “No” to Chicago

Jake Peavy has axed the deal that would send him to the Chicago White Sox, sources say. Peavy, who has always been very opinionated when it comes to teams, and places he will and will not play for, has a strong preference to stay in the National League, according to sources.

For the White Sox, it means that they will not be adding a bonafide ace to their rotation. The White Sox, who played a memorable game versus the Twins this afternoon, losing 20-1, might want to think twice about a “win now” attitude.

Breaking News: Gwynn to Join Padres

No, Tony Gwynn isn't trying a Michael Jordan like comeback, but the San Diego Padres liked his son enough to bring him home to his native San Diego.

The Padres traded outfielder Jody Gerut to the Milwaukee Brewers for Tony Gwynn Jr. Gwynn is expected to be in uniform tonight for San Diego and don the number 18, just one short of his father's number 19.
