Tampa Bay Rays

Tampa Bay Rays

Desmond Jennings 2011 Profile: Musical Chairs in the Tampa Bay Rays Outfield

If Tampa Bay wishes to contend in 2011, it’ll need major contributions from the young players on their roster who are being called upon to replace Carl Crawford, Carlos Pena, Matt Garza, Jason Bartlett and essentially the entire bullpen.

Desmond Jennings is one of these players.

Jennings was drafted in the 10th round of the 2006 MLB Amateur Draft but climbed through the ranks to become MLB.com’s sixth-ranked minor league prospect at the start of 2010.

2011 MLB Power Rankings: Rating Each of the Tampa Bay Rays’ Offseason Losses

After their offseason fire sale, the 2011 Tampa Bay Rays lost a lot of key players from their multiple playoff teams. In order to recover, they will need new players to step up to a more prominent role.

These power rankings take into consideration how much the loss hurts the Rays and if they have a viable replacement.

The key losses to the Rays roster are mostly in their bullpen. The reason being that they do not have many proven players to fill in. In other areas they have players that have at least a year or more experience in the majors.

Sternberg's Cult Followers Need To Deal With Reality

Stu Sternberg developed a cult following. Certain people think his management team can do no wrong.

This is not to suggest Sternberg ordered his followers to write a fluff piece on the Rays. People don't hold him accountable for his blunders such as breaking up the team or calling out fans indirectly for not going to games.

With Johnny Damon and Manny Ramirez, Tampa Bay Rays Have Idiot's Chance in East

It may seem odd that an organization loaded with two of baseball's top under-25 superstars, a young but effective starting rotation, an everyday lineup capable of wearing down opposing pitchers while playing stellar defense and a minor league system teeming with elite prospects would receive so little positive press during the offseason.

Johnny Damon and Manny Ramirez Sign with the Rays: Reunited and It Feels So Good

About an hour after we found out that the Toronto Blue Jays shipped Vernon Wells to the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim on Friday night and shook up the baseball world, the Tampa Bay Rays were not to be outdone.

Manny Ramirez, Johnny Damon Together Again, This Time with Tampa Bay Rays

I knew the Tampa Bay Rays were interested in both Manny Ramirez and Johnny Damon, but I was stunned upon learning that the team signed the duo for a combined $7.25 million. Ramirez, 38, played with Damon, 37, on the Boston Red Sox from 2002 to 2005. Now the stars meet up again on another American League East power.

Tampa Bay Rays: How the Acquisition of Damon and Ramirez Will Help the Rays

Before Manny Ramirez and Johnny Damon decided to make St. Petersburg, Florida their baseball home for the 2011 season, the AL East was already shaping up to be more fun than usual, and that's saying something.  Big name players had already changed addresses within the division.

Tampa Bay Rays Recover Nicely with Johnny Damon, Manny Ramirez Signings

Like many people, I was about to hand Tampa Bay fifth in the American League East this upcoming season.

Albeit reluctantly, we all know the losses they've endured: Matt Garza in the starting rotation, Rafael Soriano and Joakim Benoit in the bullpen, Carl Crawford in the outfield and Jason Bartlett and Carlos Pena in the infield.

Tampa Bay Rays Go Old School: Sign Manny Ramirez and Johnny Damon

As I looked through the lead stories of the sports world late last night, I started reading the headlines. "Okay, let's see, Venus retired from her match with injury, the Hornets destroyed the Hawks, Ramirez and Damon signed with the Rays, Polamalu is going to...wait, what?!"

It's hard to believe, even if the Rays dug up their graves to get them, that Manny Ramirez and Johnny Damon are headed south. Their careers have already done that. How much is left in the tank with these two?

Tampa Bay Rays: How Manny Ramirez and Johnny Damon Fit In

The Tampa Bay Rays roster has been picked apart this offseason, with a lot of players being signed by their American League East rivals. The Rays tried to get back at the Boston Red Sox and the New York Yankees by signing a pair of their former players, Manny Ramirez and Johnny Damon. These veterans will be welcomed into Tampa Bay to add experience and talent to a team who has the talent but not much experience.
