Toronto Blue Jays

The Toronto Blue Jays were the league leaders in home runs in 2010, and it looks like they are starting to re-establish that trend in Spring Training.  Jose Bautista and Adam Lind hit their first home runs of spring against the New York Yankees on Friday, which helped power them to a 10-3 victory.

They joined Edwin Encarnacion and Eric Thames as Jays that have already hit one home run each, while Brett Lawrie and Rajai Davis have both hit two so far.

I don't usually get angry about player's ADP, but allow me to get something off my chest: Ricky Romero is going way too late in drafts.

The fact that the Toronto Blue Jays were able to finish the year with a winning record (85-77) in the tough AL East last season was an accomplishment in itself. Still, it isn't likely they will put to rest a near-two decade playoff drought. The Blue Jays topped the league with an amazing 257 home runs last season, but they can’t expect to get that kind of production again.

The full squad of the Toronto Blue Jays hs only been at Spring Training a week now, but already decisions are being made, injuries are happening and news is emerging.

John Farrell, the Blue Jays' successor to Cito Gaston, is already working on the batting order in the first few games.  He would like to have a set lineup determined by the time the season begins, one for facing left-handed pitching and one for right-handed.  

Earlier this week, it was reported that Travis Snider has sustained a rib-cage injury which has prevented him from participating in baseball-related activities.   

Blue Jays fans have been left wondering if he will be ready for the start of the season, especially as he often seems to be taking two steps forward but then one step back.

Last season, journeyman Jose Bautista took home the major league home run title with 54 balls mashed.

This came as something of a surprise to everyone in fantasy baseball. Nowhere did he appear on a list of fantasy sleepers, nor was he ranked on very many draft boards heading into last season’s draft.

Even Nostradamus missed out on this guy. So after a monster career 2010 campaign, where do we rank him in 2011?

With Vernon Wells gone and Jose Bautista moving to third base (for the time being at least), it’s all change in the outfield for the Toronto Blue Jays. Only Travis Snider remains from last season’s outfield lineup and he wasn’t even a full-time starter (53 games in left field and 29 in right).

For those of you who think the AL East is just too competitive for the lowly Toronto Blue Jays to do any damage, think again. General manager Alex Anthopoulos has been quietly putting together a nice team that will continue to be good for years to come.

Offense

As the baseball season edges ever closer with the start of spring training, the Toronto Blue Jays' pitching rotation appears set at the top, with Ricky Romero, Brandon Morrow and Brett Cecil slated for the top three spots.

It’s the other two places that raise the most intrigue, with a myriad of options available to round out the rotation.
