The "Buckner Ball" 23 Years Later: Where Is It Now?

Postseason baseball is shaped by the iconography that is baseball itself. In the last 25 years, some of baseball’s most memorable moments played out on what proved to be the biggest stage.

From dramatic home runs (who can forget Kirk Gibson in 1988 or Joe Carter five years later?) to the straight-up weird (we were treated to two in 2003…Steve Bartman in Chicago and the Pedro Martinez throw-down of Don Zimmer), baseball fans have pretty much seen it all.

World Series Preview: What the New York Yankees Must Do to Win it All

Well...that was fast. My night of celebration ended about 15 minutes after I posted the last piece . Immediately, my mind started to shift to the new question at hand.

How do the Yankees beat the Phillies this week?

Here's the game plan, in three(-ish) parts:

1. Use the Long Lineup to Tire Out Cliff Lee and the Philly Starters Early. Then, Go to Work on the Bullpen.

Torn Between Scylla and Charybdis: On Rooting for the Phillies or Yankees

The raging debate that will go on from now until Wednesday (actually, through the end of the series) is really tearing me apart.

What's a Met fan to do? You've got our current arch nemesis, the Phillies, against the "jerk of a big brother" in the Yankees.

This situation exemplifies that saying, "Between a rock and a hard place."

Phillies-Yankees World Series: Just Icing on Cake for Mets

As if the winter could get any colder.

The Mets will enter the offseason and free agency period with their two biggest rivals, the Yankees and the Phillies, sitting atop the baseball universe. The Phillies clinched their second straight National League pennant on Wednesday, defeating the Dodgers in the NLCS in five games. The Yankees were able to clinch their first American League pennant since 2003 last night, defeating the Angels 5-2 to take the series in six games.

Meanwhile, all the Mets can do is watch.

The Top Latinos in MLB's World Series

Alex Rodriguez had one of the best performances ever by a Latino in League Championship Series.

Mariano Rivera added to his Hall of Fame-bound career after another superb outing and once again he showed the world why he is possibly the best closer in a postseason series.

Backed by Rivera and Pettitte, Yankees Win Pennant

Behind by two in the eighth inning with the speedy Chone Figgins on second base, Anaheim Angels’ slugger and future Hall of Famer Vladimir Guerrero took what may have been his final swing as a member of the franchise, slicing a cut fastball from New York Yankees famed closer Mariano Rivera into right field.

Figgins sped around third and scored. It was the first run Rivera had allowed at home in the postseason since 2000, a span of 36 innings, and the last the resilient Angels would score in their ever-so-successful season.

World Series 2009 Prediction from WhatIfSports.com

Our computer is on a roll.  It correctly picked North Carolina basketball to win it all in the 2009 NCAA tournament , the 2009 Stanley Cup champion, the Lakers over the Magic in the 2009 NBA Finals , and the Pittsburgh Steelers to win

C.C. Sabathia Vs. Cliff Lee: "Cleveland Indians" In The World Series

No, the Cleveland Indians' team is not in the 2009 World Series. But two individual former Indians are. They're C.C. Sabathia and Cliff Lee.

Such are the trials of low budget outfits like the Indians. They can't pay enough keep their best players after the team-controlled six years, and are forced to trade them, or lose them in free agency.

Is Jed Hoyer the Answer in San Diego?

The student has surpassed the teacher, so to speak.

Thirty-five-year-old Jed Hoyer is to be named the newest general manager for the San Diego Padres, replacing Kevin Towers who has held the position for the past 14 seasons.

The Padres were not expected to make a formal announcement over the weekend. Jeff Moorad, the newest Padres chief executive, did inform Towers that he would not be returning for the 2010 season.

One big factor that one has to accept, is that San Diego is not Boston. You do not have the luxury and the amenities that the Red Sox have.
