Daily Haze: Fantasy Baseball Right Around the Corner

Before I started playing fantasy football back in 1998 — in a four-man league, nonetheless — I played fantasy baseball. I used to be a huge baseball fan as a kid, only to find my interest in the sport fade over time.

Probably has a little something to do with all the steroids, human growth hormone, All-Star Game determining home team for the World Series, no more Cal Ripken, Jr., etc.

Regardless, I can thank baseball for starting my voyage into fantasy sports. And I still like to dabble in a little fantasy baseball during the non-football portion of the year.

So, to commemorate, today’s Daily Haze focuses on a few baseball links:

And if you, too, like to dabble in fantasy baseball, consider joining our 16-team fantasy baseball league hosted by Yahoo! . There only are four spots remaining and the draft is at the end of this month (March 28). Did this last year and it was pretty competitive:

Here are today’s great reads:

  • More reaction from the Eagles’ acquisition of former Saints’ running back Mike Bell . I touched on the effect this move will have on the Philly backfield, particularly LeSean McCoy, yesterday. There also are some significant implications on the New Orleans side of the deal. [Fantasy Guru]
  • And even more reaction, this time centered on the production and fantasy value of LeSean McCoy in 2010. [Pancake Blocks]
  • The Falcons did not seem too concerned with the workload Michael Turner endured two seasons ago (the curse of 370!) but now that tone has changed. Turner did battle injury last season, so I would say the curse did, indeed, strike again. And now, Turner probably will get less work and more help from guys like Jerious Norwood and Jason Snelling. [FFToolBox]
  • As awful as Derek Anderson was in Cleveland by the end of his time there, he does have an outside shot at becoming the starting quarterback in Arizona next year . That must be a tough pill to swallow for Cadinals’ fans after the success the franchise enjoyed with Kurt Warner at the helm. Better hope Matt Leinart has matured during his tutelage. [SI.com]
