If Major League Baseball is trying to send Ryan Dempster a message, it's not doing a great job.

The Boston Red Sox pitcher hit New York Yankees third baseman Alex Rodriguez in the second inning of a game between the bitter rivals on Sunday, resulting in a five-game suspension for Dempster:

On August 20, 2001, Ken Griffey Jr. hit a walk-off inside-the-park home run in the bottom of the 11th inning to give the Reds a 5-4 win over the Cardinals. 

The Kid had a batting average of .286 and hit 22 home runs in 111 games for Cincinnati in 2001.

Many of those players will not be returning to the team.

Last night, Reds second baseman Brandon Phillips was hit in the knee by a pitch in the bottom of the seventh inning.

The pitch was ruled a strike, however, because Phillips swung at it and was called out.
