With the halfway point of spring training upon us, the time to take a look around baseball at each team's most pleasant surprises and biggest disappointments has arrived.

Every team has its own needs and expectations of the players it invites to camp, and how those individual storylines play out ultimately helps those clubs make their final roster decisions before Opening Day.

Newsday's Marc Carig relayed the update and cited the injury as the outfielder's reason for missing the Mets' game Tuesday against the Miami Marlins.  

Chicago White Sox first baseman Adam LaRoche wants to retire, per Colleen Kane of the Chicago Tribune.  

According to Kane, the 36-year-old LaRoche will weigh his MLB future in the coming days but is leaning heavily toward walking away from the game.

By virtue of more lenient trade embargo regulations between the United States and Cuba laid forth Tuesday, the door is now open for Cuban baseball players to legally earn salaries as part of Major League Baseball.

The New York Mets reportedly placed infielder Ruben Tejada on waivers Tuesday and could release him if he goes unclaimed by Thursday.

Toronto Blue Jays star Edwin Encarnacion is dealing with an oblique injury, and it is uncertain when he will be able to return to action.

In 2016, baseball fans can still think about Giancarlo Stanton the way basketball fans thought about Stephen Curry circa 2012: With talent like that, just imagine what he might do with good health.

Basketball fans have certainly gotten their answer. But as for us baseball folk, Stanton's if-healthy potential is still a topic for the imagination.
