Last week I profiled Antonio Bastardo of the Philadelphia Phillies and this week I'm going to be doing Bradley Holt of the New York Mets.

Holt was born in North Carolina on October 13, 1986.

The Mets drafted him in the first round (33rd overall) in the 2008 MLB Amateur Draft and sent him to the Brooklyn Cyclones.

For the Cyclones, Holt had a 5-3 record, 1.87 ERA in four games all of which he started.

What started out as a well pitched and well played game, got a little sloppy towards the end of the game.

Adam Wainwright pitched 7 solid innings striking out 7 and giving up 3 runs, 2 were unearned. Ryan Dempster was able to baffle the Cardinals until the fifth inning when Joe Thurston doubled home Yadier Molina and Khalil Greene.

The Mets have signed Mike Lamb to a minor league deal. While in Houston Lamb was affectionately known as Lambo for his unusual batting stance/swing and his solid power numbers.

Albert Pujols has accomplished much already in his career. Last night, he added yet another accolade to that long list.

For the first time in his career, he stole a base in his third consecutive game. That base, coupled with a 2-for-4 performance at the plate, helped the Cardinals sneak past the Chicago Cubs 4-3 on Friday.

He's long been regarded as "aggressive" on the base paths. Sometimes that results in great, heads-up ball playing but other times it results in being greedy and getting caught on the basepaths.

I thought it was cool when I was a prepubescent boy curious about all things sex.

I thought it was cool when I was in college, watching the game with my buddies.

I even thought it was cool as a single guy in my early 20's.

Now I have a little girl that is counting on me to show her the way, and not only is it no longer cool, it is no longer tolerable.

Sports programming was always geared toward kids and was considered family programming when I was growing up. Watching the game with your Mom or Dad as a little tyke was an American rite of passage.

Many think a stereotypical shortstop, is smallish, very swift, has a rifle for an arm, can barely bat his weight, and has little to no power.

That profile may have been a general resume for most in times past, but in today’s game things have changed remarkably.

The shortstops today have flexed their muscles. Hanley Ramirez and Jimmy Rollins are good for 30 homers each, and can still rob hits from deep in the hole.

Lists and rankings have been made plenteous. Who was the best shortstop ever, Honus Wagner?

Coming into Friday’s opening game of the Yankees-Red Sox rivalry, New York was already struggling to find a clutch hit with runners on.

They were hitting just .232 as a team with runners in scoring position (RISP), and were currently standing at third-worst in the league as a result.
