Los Angeles Angels first baseman Albert Pujols hit the 522nd home run of his career during the first inning of Sunday's 9-2 loss to the Kansas City Royals.

The Washington Nationals and Boston Red Sox are underway on this lovely spring Monday at Fenway Park, and the game has effectively turned into the Mookie Betts Show.

Alex Rodriguez survived his first week back in an MLB uniform while performing at a high level for the New York Yankees to kick off the 2015 season. Appearing in all six games, Rodriguez hit .300 with one home run and six runs batted in.  

The New York Yankees have no plans to celebrate Alex Rodriguez's 660th home run this season, though A-Rod is just five homers short of reaching the mark and tying Willie Mays on the all-time homers list. At least one former player, Barry Bonds, thinks that's a bit ridiculous.   

No player may be more important to the Cleveland Indians this year than Yan Gomes. Between his work at the plate and his handling of the Indians pitching staff, the 27-year-old has established himself as one of the best catchers in the game.

He left Saturday's game against the Detroit Tigers with a knee injury.

The Detroit Tigers don't boast as much depth as they used to, so another injury to designated hitter Victor Martinez is going to be magnified exponentially. Last year's American League MVP runner-up is dealing with another issue that's left his status in doubt.

Curt Schilling was treated for mouth cancer nearly a year ago.

On Saturday, the former Red Sox pitcher published a powerful piece in The Players' Tribune entitled "Letter to My Younger Self."

In the letter, Schilling warns himself about the dangers of chewing tobacco:

Dear 16-year-old Curt,

The New York Mets will be without relief pitcher Jenrry Mejia for a significant portion of the 2015 season.

Pittsburgh Pirates All-Star center fielder Andrew McCutchen is dealing with knee soreness. He left the team's game against the Brewers on April 10 in the ninth inning and was ruled out of action for the game against Milwaukee the following day.

For one reason or another, there are always a handful of MLB players who simply don't receive the attention they deserve.

Ben Zobrist was the poster child for being underrated for so many years that it reached a point where his "underratedness" was almost overrated, if that makes any sense.

At any rate, there is a fresh batch of under-the-radar stars around the league who deserve far more hype than they are currently receiving.
