The Reds roll into the All-Star break just 1.5 games back of first-place Milwaukee and seven games above the .500 mark. Two weeks ago, the Reds were flirting with .500 and anywhere from seven-to-eight games back of first.

Naturally, Gomez was upset with his bat and tried to take out his frustrations, but it didn't work out like he planned. He went to break his bat not once, but three timesand failed.

New York Yankees shortstop Derek Jeter hit a pair of singles in Thursday's 9-3 loss to the Cleveland Indians, thus becoming the fourth player whose career began after 1914 with 1,000 multihit games, per Bill Chuck of gammonsdaily.com.

It was an otherwise ordinary night for the Yankee shortstop, who struck out in his other two at-bats and also drew a walk.
