What good is talent to a fantasy owner who lacks timing?

Fantasy baseball—just like the real thing—is a game of skill, luck and timing. That last trait, in particular, comes in handy in regards to getting value in the trading game.

Knowing which player(s) to trade away and which to deal for—and knowing just the right time to do so—can make all the difference.

The Boston Red Sox are in need of a spark to ignite their once-powerful offense. They’re hoping Shane Victorino can be the catalyst they need, as the team looks to regain the offensive magic that made them baseball’s best a season ago.

After reaching the World Series last season, the St. Louis Cardinals have decided to extend the contract of general manager John Mozeliak.

According to Major League Baseball on Twitter, the two-year extension means that Mozeliak is now contracted through the 2018 season:

While a 10-game hot streak would go largely overlooked if it happened in August, it's hard to ignore a batter stepping into the box with a .600 batting average or a pitcher with a 20.0 K/9 mark when the season is just getting underway.

At the conclusion of play on April 11, most major league teams had played at least 10 games or one-sixteenth of a six-month schedule. For baseball fans familiar with week-to-week reactions of NFL fans, the 2014 season is at the same stage a football season is after Week 1.

That, of course, can be taken in different ways. No position player has garnered enough at-bats to derive legitimate meaning, nor does any pitcher have enough innings to tell a full tale. Of course, hot or cold starts could be instructive when projecting the rest of the year.
