Fantasy Baseball: Box Score Breakouts for April 21st

Here’s a look at the unheralded fantasy baseball players who played well yesterday.

Washington Nationals @ St. Louis Cardinals

The big guns (Albert Pujols and Matt Holliday) did the damage offensively, but Kyle Lohse’s two-hit, six-strikeout shutout was the story. He’s now 3-1 with a 2.01 ERA.



Arizona Diamondbacks @ Cincinnati Reds

Miguel Cairo went 1-for-3 with a run and two RBI. Ramon Hernandez is hitting .351 after going 2-for-3 with a run and an RBI. Gerardo Parra went 2-for-4. Mike Leake, who was in the news recently for shoplifting, gave up three runs on four hits with six strikeouts in seven innings to improve to 3-0 with a 4.94 ERA.



Atlanta Braves @ Los Angeles Dodgers

Casey Blake went 3-for-6 with a home run and two RBI. Freddie Freeman went 2-for-4 with a homer.



Chicago White Sox @ Tampa Bay Rays

Omar Vizquel went 2-for-5 with a run, two RBI and a stolen base. A.J. Pierzynski went 1-for-4 with two RBI. Mark Teahen scored a pair of runs. Sam Fuld went 2-for-5 with two RBI. Gavin Floyd gave up two runs with seven strikeouts in six innings to improve to 2-1 with a 4.00 ERA.



Minnesota Twins @ Baltimore Orioles

Jim Thome went 2-for-4 with a home run and two RBI. Matt Wieters went 2-for-4. Scott Baker struck out nine in seven four-hit scoreless innings. Jeremy Guthrie, yesterday’s streaming option, took the loss but held the Twins to two runs over seven innings.



Houston Astros @ New York Mets

Jason Bay went 1-for-4 with two runs in his season debut. Ike Davis went 1-for-3 with a home run and two RBI. Chris Capuano gave up one run on six hits in seven innings for the win.



Pittsburgh Pirates @ Florida Marlins

Scott Cousins went 2-for-4 with two runs and a grand slam. Brett Hayes went 2-for-4 with a home run and three RBI.



Cleveland Indians @ Kansas City Royals

Melky Cabrera went 2-for-5 with two game-winning RBI. Wilson Betemit went 2-for-4. Josh Tomlin gave up one run on five hits in 7.1 innings. Sean O’Sullivan gave up two runs with six strikeouts in six innings. Neither starter factored into the decision.



Oakland A’s @ Seattle Mariners

Josh Willingham went 2-for-3. Brandon McCarthy gave up one run on four hits with six strikeouts in eight innings but took the loss. King Felix Hernandez threw 7.2 scoreless innings.



Philadelphia Phillies @ San Diego Padres

Placido Polanco went 2-for-4 with a run and two stolen bases. Ben Francisco went 1-for-2 with a homer and two RBI. Roy Oswalt was on top of his game, allowing one hit with seven strikeouts in six scoreless innings.



Boston Red Sox @ Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim

Erick Aybar went 2-for-4. Tyler Chatwood gave up two runs in six innings.
