Fantasy Baseball Box Score Breakouts: May 3, 2010

Here’s a look at some unheralded players who played well yesterday.

Brett Cecil, Toronto Blue Jays

Cecil, my pick for a streaming option yesterday, chewed up the Indians, going eight innings and allowing one run on one hit with 10 Ks. He improved to 2-1 with a 2.61 ERA.

David Freese, St. Louis Cardinals (pictured with Albert Pujols)

Freese continued his hot streak by going 3-for-5 with a run and three RBI. He’s hitting .358 with 19 RBI.

Jaime Garcia, St. Louis Cardinals

Garcia is also playing well for the Cards. He gave up one run on three hits with six Ks in six innings to improve to 3-1 with a 1.12 ERA.

J.D. Drew, Boston Red Sox

Drew went 4-for-5 with two runs and three RBI (17) to raise his average to .247.

Mike Lowell, Boston Red Sox

Lowell continues to outperform Big Papi. He went 4-for-4 with two runs and four RBI. He’s hitting .300.

Adrian Beltre, Boston Red Sox

You wouldn’t guess that Beltre was brought in for his glove primarily. After going 2-for-5 with three runs, a HR, and three RBI, he’s hitting .333 with 13 RBI.

Austin Jackson, Detroit Tigers

This is getting ridiculous. Jackson went 3-for-5 with a run and an RBI to raise his average to .377.

Wilson Ramos, Minnesota Twins

So he couldn’t hit in the minors. In two games with the Twins he’s hitting .778 after following up a 4-for-4 effort with a 3-for-4 game. Don’t expect even .300 hitting to last.

Potent Middle Relievers

Nick Masset, Cincinnati Reds: Win, 2 IP, 0 Runs, 3 Ks (22 Ks, 13 IP)
