Miguel Montero will have the surgery on his injured knee and will miss the next four to six weeks. It has been determined by his second opinion that Montero does not have torn ligaments in his knee. This is great news for Montero owners as there was a fear that he would miss months, not weeks. Chris Snyder will fill in for Montero.
Jacoby Ellsbury is still having soreness in his ribs after a collision with Adrian Beltre over the weekend and he will not be back until Friday at the absolute earliest. These rib/oblique injuries tend to be tricky to predict when the player will be able to return, so don’t be surprised if it is a couple of days more. Hopefully he will either be back or we will have more news by Sunday, when some of you might have to set your lineups for next week.
Brian Fuentes has landed on the 15-day DL with back stiffness. This could be a bit of a problem for Fuentes if Fernando Rodney is able to come in and be very effective. Fuentes hasn’t pitched since opening day, and the move was made retroactive to April 6th, which means he is eligible to return on the 21st. Apparently Fuentes injured himself lifting weights and says he will be ready when he is eligible to return, but I wouldn’t be so sure of that based on the fact that most managers now ease their closers back into the roles and we will see how Rodney does.
C.J. Wilson had a bout with food poisoning that had him scratched from his start on Wednesday, and he reportedly lost seven pounds from this ordeal and will not pitch against the Indians. Look for Wilson to return at some point over the weekend against the Yankees.

Aaron Hill tweaked his hamstring in the first game of the season and it has landed him on the 15-day DL in what Toronto has called a precautionary move. That really seems to be the case this time, because he nearly played in a game on Monday, but instead was placed on the DL. Hill should be back in about 10 days when the Blue Jays play the Rays.
Brian Roberts is on the 15-day DL with an oblique injury, but is also still dealing with pain in his back that has been bothering him since spring training. Roberts has received an epidural in his back and in a couple of days he will know how long he will be out. The oblique is also not a good injury because of the torque on your body when you swing the bat. Expect Roberts to be out the better part of a month.
Jimmy Rollins ' injured calf has finally landed him on the 15-day DL and an MRI revealed a “mild to moderate strain." Rollins is expected to miss two to four weeks, but I would plan on closer to the latter.
Jayson Werth was still out of the lineup for the Phillies on Wednesday and although there is no concrete information, I wouldn’t be the least bit surprised if you didn’t see him until the weekend.
Mike Gonzalez is now on the 15-day DL with a strain in his shoulder, although it could be due to the fact that he couldn’t get anyone out. He said he was unable to get his shoulder loose in a bullpen session, but I am not sure about all of this. Gonzalez will likely be back after the 15 days, and I will be interested to see if he is back in the closer’s role when he returns.
Derrek Lee is shockingly out of the Cubs' lineup! Lee is complaining of inflammation in his right thumb and appears to be day to day. Lee is expected to play Thursday, but even if he doesn’t, it seems like it will be just a day or two on this injury.
Carlos Gonzalez is still out with a hamstring injury, although it appears that he could be used as a pinch hitter, but Manager Jim Tracy has said he would be used only in an emergency. Not sure what would be deemed an emergency, but Tracy also said Gonzalez would have to be run for. Seems like a decent chance that Gonzalez comes back sometime over the weekend.

Chris Coghlan has been held out of the Marlins' lineup since injuring his side making a diving catch the other day. However, this doesn’t seem major and could be due more to the fact that he isn’t hitting; rather calling it a benching, they are blaming the injury.
On The Mend
Alex Gordon has played four games at Single-A Wilmington and is 2-for-8 at the plate. He has also walked six times and has been hit by a pitch four times. Gordon is looking to return sometime in the next week to 10 days, so if you are one of those who still believe in the young third baseman, be ready to pick him up in the coming days.
Daisuke Matsuzaka threw five shutout innings in a rehab outing over the weekend, walked one and struck out three. He threw 73 pitches and Boston has said that it would like him to throw 95 pitches before he returns to the majors. Hopefully the rest he got to start the year will have him ready to pitch the rest of 2010 pain free. When right, Dice can be a Top 25 pitcher. The only problem is he hasn’t been right in a while.
Ted Lilly had a rehab start Wednesday in which he looked pretty good. Lilly threw four innings and allowed just a solo home run. He struck out three and is due for one more rehab start before returning from offseason shoulder surgery. Lilly is a nice fifth starter for your fantasy rotation when he is healthy, and with Carlos Zambrano’s struggles, Lily is becoming the best pitcher on the Cubs.
Brad Lidge was horrible in his first two rehab appearances, but threw a shutout inning on Wednesday to move closer to his season debut for the NL champion Phillies. He walked the first batter, who was erased trying to steal, before Lidge was able to strike out the final two hitters. He appears to be ready to join Philadelphia next week so be ready to activate the enigmatic closer.
