Fantasy Baseball Playoffs: Under the Radar Contributors

It’s slim pickings now that there are just eight teams left.  Naturally, since the pool of players dwindles significantly you have to be on top of your game to come out ahead.  Here are some guys that could be under-the-radar fantasy baseball contributors.

1.CJ Wilson, SP TEX

Wilson has been doing it right all season long, so this pick won't come as much of a surprise.  He draws a very shaky James Shields in Game 2 of the Rangers series with the Rays, and has been very solid on the road this season. He didn’t blow anyone away with his late season numbers, but he was kept on a strict pitch count for many of those outings and that certainly won’t be the case in the postseason.  You can feel good about running him out there this week.

2.Brian Duensing, SP MIN

Duensing has come on with a fury late in the season and looks poised to continue that impressive play into the playoffs.  Since grabbing a regular turn in the rotation in late July, Duensing has been solid if not spectacular.

He went 8-2 in the second half of the season and has routinely gone six-plus innings in each start.  He will get the Bronx Bombers in Game 3 so the propensity to implode is certainly there, but his track record dictates that won’t be the case.  You can expect him to keep his team in the game and pitch some meaningful innings for sure.

3.Omar Infante, 3B ATL

Infante has been doing it all year long, but with Martin Prado out for an indefinite period of time he will be counted on to keep that production going strong. Infante is firmly entrenched atop the Braves lineup and will be expected to get on base for the bats behind him.

4.Andres Torres, OF SF

Torres had to battle through an unfortunate appendectomy as well as an oblique strain late in the season, but came back to play in the final nine games for the Giants. He finished the year strong and was a factor in just about every important category.  He will be counted on to steal bags and drive in runs for the Giants in their series against Atlanta.

5.Ben Francisco, OF PHI

Francisco had an outrageous finish to his season: 7-17 with two taters.  Pair that with his six RBI and a couple of stolen bags and Francisco was quietly a very productive player off the bench for the Phillies.

Charlie Manuel seems intent to get him into the lineup anywhere he can and that will inevitably translate to a nice return in a stacked Philadelphia offense.
