Fantasy Baseball Spring Storylines: Mar. 18 (Willis, Snider & More)

There was a small slate of games, but plenty of stories worth watching.  Just look at the performance of Dontrelle Willis, for example.

Dontelle Willis allowed no hits and one walk, striking out two over three shutout innings.  Over 10 innings, he’s allowed just one earned run and five hits, but it’s not all rosy.  He’s walked five and hit two batters.  That’s a lot of free runners and he’s not going to be giving up a hit every other inning for too long.  He’s got potential, but I certainly wouldn’t consider him a must-own gamble, would you?

Travis Snider erupted to go 2-for-3 with two home runs, four RBI, and two runs.  He’s certainly a player to be considering as a sleeper in the outfield.

Rich Hill allowed three runs on two hits and five walks, striking out four over four innings against the Braves.  You didn’t expect Dave Duncan to work his magic overnight, did you?  He’s a name to keep an eye on off the waiver wire given Duncan’s history (what does it say for Hill that the pitching coach is the reason to be watching him).

Rafael Furcal picked up his first stolen base of the preseason.  Maybe he’ll remember how to do that in 2010, huh?

Jason Hammel allowed one run on five hits and no walks, striking out six over five innings, and is now sporting a 1.93 ERA this spring in 14.0 innings.  Even more impressive is his 12 strikeouts and zero walks.  Tim Lawrence discussed him earlier in the preseason (click here to view) and so far Hammel looks primed for a big season.  I’m still skeptical, but he certainly has pitched his way onto my radar.
