Fantasy Baseball: Value ERA Options

So you didn’t land Zack Greinke or Chris Carpenter. That’s OK, there are still plenty of value pitchers to help you post a low ERA.

Brett Anderson, Oakland A’s
Anderson had a solid rookie debut posting an 11-11 record with a 4.06 ERA. I expect the win total to increase and the ERA to dip below the 4.00 mark.

Scott Baker, Minnesota Twins
Baker posted a 4.37 ERA, but is much better than that. He hurried back from an injury and wasn’t quite ready. He was awesome after a rough two months.

Mark Buehrle, Chicago White Sox
Always overlooked because of the lack of strikeouts. He’s virtually a lock to post a sub-4.00 ERA.

John Danks, Chicago White Sox
Danks isn’t a sexy pick, but he has reached 12 & 13 wins the past two seasons with 3.32 & 3.77 ERAs respectively.

Ryan Dempster, Chicago Cubs
Dempster had a bit of a regression last year going from a 17-6 record with a 2.96 ERA to a 11-9 mark with a 3.65 ERA. I see the ERA remaining fairly flat with a slight bump in wins because the Cubs should improve on offense.

Jair Jurrjens, Atlanta Braves
A shoulder scare should keep his draft stock low. He posted a 2.60 ERA last year with a respectable 3.68 ERA in 2008.

Hiroki Kuroda, Los Angeles Dodgers
Kuroda has posted nearly identical ERAs of 3.73 and 3.76 in his two seasons. Now if he can just improve on that win total.

Ted Lilly, Chicago Cubs
I don’t believe the 3.10 ERA he posted last year, but he’s posted solid ERAs every year but 2005 dating back to 2003.

Joel Pinero, Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim
He was brilliant last year with the Cardinals. Thankfully he landed on his feet with the Angels making him a solid option in 2010.

Randy Wells, Chicago Cubs
Wells posted a 3.05 ERA as a rookie. I expect that number to increase, but he still should have a positive influence on your team ERA.
