The Land of 10,000 Lakes, (really, it's closer to 15,000) has decided to declare it's top icon of all time—no, not Prince, Tiny Tim, Bob Dylan, or Jesse the "Mind" Ventura.
You might be thinking, "I know, it's Brett Favre!" Well, you're getting warmer, but no.
"A.L. post season expert, Orlando Cabrera?" Almost there.
"Wait, you're not talking about that crappy old Dome are you?"
Yeah. You got it. That crappy old Dome. After the last 48 hours, I think you can agree, with just cause.
For the last 28 years, Minnesota has called the Hubert H. Humphrey Metrodome it's Metro-home. With the Minnesota Gophers Football program recently relocating to their own stadium in Dinky Town, called the TCF Bank Stadium; and the Minnesota Twins Baseball team opening their 2010 season in the newly completed Target Field, it would seem the days of the funny bounces, the homer hankies, the disappearing balls and the plexi-glass leaps in the outfield are soon going to become distant memories.
Sure, the Vikings will still be around, but for how long—is anyone's guess.
So...before turning the page on some of the best times in the last 25+ years, let's take a look back at some of the most memorable moments in the Metrodome, and pay homage to the place that has easily been the biggest icon in Minnesota.
