"Empire State of Mind" is Jay-Z's latest hit off of his newest album, The Blueprint 3 . The hit song has been blasting through radios all over the country. It has also been heard throughout Yankee Stadium, as the song is also Derek Jeter's walk-up song throughout the 2009 post-season.
The theme is making people all over Yankees Universe start comparing Jay-Z to Frank Sinatra and his classic song "New York, New York." Sinatra's song plays after every Yankees home game. Many are starting to wonder whether the new hip-hop song is the 2009 New York Yankees unofficial theme song.
If you have not heard the song yet, and will be in attendance for Game One of the 2009 World Series, you will have the opportunity to hear the song live. That's right, Jay-Z and Alicia Keys are set to perform "Empire State of Mind" before the Yankees start their battle for World Series No. 27.
Upon accepting the offer of singing before the start of the World Series Jay-Z called the chance a "once-in-a-lifetime experience." The Hip-Hop billionaire also quoted the Yankees legendary center-fielder Joe DiMaggio saying, "Thank the good Lord for making me a Yankee."
The song goes beyond referring to New York as a great city. According to Jay-Z the song is about hope and inspiration. It's all about making a person's dream come true in the land of opportunity.
Jay-Z was raised and grew up in Brooklyn, which would make people think "Why didn't he root for the close-by Mets?" The simple answer to that question is; Jay-Z is a smart man. He has been an avid fan throughout most of his life. In magazines, photo shoots, album covers, and in music videos he is mostly seen wearing that navy blue hat with the intersecting N and Y.
Following the performance of "Empire State of Mind", Alicia Keys will sing the national anthem of the United States of America, the real land of opportunity.
Fans present at Game One of the World Series planned to see a good game. In addition to what is expected to be a good series, fans at Game One will now be in for a heck of a show.
