MLB Fantasy Baseball: 2011 N.L. Only Top 10 Third Basemen Rankings

Here’s an early look at the N.L. Only 2011 Third Base rankings.

1. David Wright, New York Mets: David Wright is back. His average/HR/SB combination make him the class of the National League hot corner.

2. Ryan Zimmerman, Washington Nationals: While I favor Wright slightly because of his stolen bases, Zimmerman is right up there. The Nationals are improving, and Zimmerman is at the forefront of that movement.

3. Pablo Sandoval, San Francisco Giants: Kung Fu Panda has lost a ton of weight to improve physically. He went through a bitter divorce last year so he should be in a better place emotionally. Fantasy owners should enjoy the improvement statistically.

4. Casey McGehee, Milwaukee Brewers: McGahee posted a .301-58-16-66-0 line as a rookie, and followed up with a .285-70-23-104-1 sophomore campaign. He’s easy to overlook, but keep in mind he’s hitting behind Ryan Braun and Prince Fielder.

5. Aramis Ramirez, Chicago Cubs: Ramirez is a high risk/reward pick because he produces when he’s healthy (25 HR and 83 RBI in 124 games last year). Unfortunately, he’s missed 118 games over the past two seasons.

6. Pedro Alvarez, Pittsburgh Pirates: Alvarez hit .311 with 15 runs, 5 HR, and 26 RBI in September to help him finish with 16 HR with 64 RBI. He should be able to build on that success and climb the ranks of third basemen in mixed and N.L. Only leagues.

7. Martin Prado, Atlanta Braves: Prado brings multiple position eligibility and a near .300 average to the table. He’s clearly a cut below the top six.

8. Ian Stewart, Colorado Rockies: Stewart is young and has plenty of pop, though he struggles at times. He'll likely yield ABs to Ty Wigginton against lefties, but that could actually bolster Stewart’s average.

9. Ty Wigginton, Colorado Rockies: Speaking of Wigginton, he’ll likely get plenty of at bats backing up first, second, and third base. He’ll also get DH at bats during interleague play.

10.  Jose Lopez, Colorado Rockies: Lopez will return to second base, which should prove beneficial. The multiple position eligibility helps his value. He could provide some cheap pop at the position.
