MLB Fantasy Baseball Box Score Breakouts: April 25, 2011

Here’s a look at the unheralded fantasy baseball players who played well yesterday.

Philip Humber gave up one hit with five strikeouts in seven scoreless innings to improve to 2-2 with a 3.20 ERA. A.J. Burnett (eight IP, one run, three hits) pitched well but took the loss.

Washington Nationals @ Pittsburgh Pirates

Neil Walker went 2-for-4 with a run. Newly acquired Brandon Wood went 1-for-4 with a run and two RBI. Pedro Alvarez sat this one out, a likely scenario when the Pirates face lefties. Adam LaRoche went 1-for-3 with two RBI. Paul Maholm gave up two runs on four hits with eight strikeouts in seven innings for the win.

Los Angeles Dodgers @ Florida Marlins

Chris Coghlan went 3-for-4 with three runs, two homers and two RBI (13). He’s hitting .301. Jamey Carroll went 2-for-4 with a run, an RBI and a stolen base. Jerry Sands went 3-for-4 with an RBI and a stolen base. Ivan De Jesus went 2-for-4 with a run. Jon Garland gave up two runs on four hits over seven innings but got a no-decision.

Colorado Rockies @ Chicago Cubs

Kosuke Fukudome went 5-for-5 with a run to raise his average to .478. Darwin Barney went 1-for-5 with a home run and two RBI. Jeff Baker went 3-for-4 with a run. Marlon Byrd went 2-for-4.

Ryan Hanigan went 1-for-4 with a run and two RBI. Jonathan Lucroy went 2-for-4 with a run and an RBI. Bronson Arroyo gave up one earned run in 6.1 innings to improve to 3-2 with a 3.64 ERA.

Philadelphia Phillies @ Arizona Diamondbacks

Placido Polanco went 2-for-4 to raise his average to .372, and Cliff Lee (seven IP, four runs) struck out 12, but Ian Kennedy’s three-hit, 10-strikeout shutout told the story.

Oakland A’s @ Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim

Howie Kendrick went 2-for-4 with a run and two RBI. Coco Crisp went 3-for-4. Hideki Matsui went 2-for-4. Jered Weaver’s 10-strikeout shutout made him 6-0 with a 0.99 ERA.
