MLB under the Bleachers: May 26

The '90s Nightmares

Every decade has its set of ferocious hitters that make pitchers wake up in a cold sweat.  Who were the most fearsome guys from the 1990s, though?

Here's a slideshow of the team's lineup.  Some of the choices are easy; you've gotta have Barry Bonds and the Big Unit out there.  Don't be skeptical of Tony Gwynn's inclusion, though.  Any clubhouse caterer can tell you the man had an inner ferocity that could not be matched, particularly if there were chicken wings around.

Did the Ghosts Not Cross the Road?

The new Yankee Stadium is an awfully nice home for the Bronx Bombers, but it seems to be missing a little something.  After making a visit to the stadium, one writer suggests that the mystique just isn't there.  A Yankee stadium with no mystique or aura?  Preposterous!  Maybe they're out somewhere giving Curt Schilling a dance.

Elvis Has Left the Critics' Glare

Then notion of moving an All-Star like Michael Young away from shortstop to open a slot for 20-year-old Elvis Andrus sounded a little nutty to some Rangers fans last offseason.

Then they saw Andrus play.

Now the team's looking strong, and the organization is looking brilliant for giving Andrus a shot.  Here's a look at the gutsy decision.  Well done, Elvis.

Now, if you really want to help the team long-term, go to law school and figure out a way to void Michael Young's albatross contract.

Call Up the Young Bird!

With Troy Glaus likely out until August at the very earliest, the Cardinals are in something of a bind at third base.  Luckily, though, they've got an uber-prospect just waiting at Triple A named Brett Wallace.  Why not give him a call-up in a week or two when his arbitration clock won't be affected?  One writer makes the case for that move.

Call us sentimental, but when we hear "DL" and "Cardinals' third baseman," we still can't help but immediately miss the Scott Rolen Era.

Get Bobby Cox Some New Guys to Yell At

The Braves are hanging in there in the NL East, but the team's not perfect.  A well-timed trade or two could really help the squad's chances of starting another playoff streak.  Who should they go out and get?

Here's a slideshow of 10 potential trade targets.  You're not going to believe this, but they're almost all outfielders!  (Okay, fine, unless your name is Jeff Francouer or Jordan Schafer, you probably did see that one coming).
