Pedro Wants to Pitch in 2010

According to foxsports.com, the agent for Pedro Martinez said Pedro has decided he wants to pitch in 2010. This is future Hall of Famer Pedro Martinez who has racked up 219 wins and only a 100 losses, all in the “Steroid ERA.” Pedro has a career 2.93 ERA, three Cy Youngs and was the most dominant pitcher in a time where the long ball was king.

Where should Pedro Go?   (Here is a short list of teams Pedro should sign with or think about signing with. I tried to focus on teams that have a shot at the postseason and a good fan base.)

Phillies —The obvious choice is to go back to the Phillies, who have made the World Series the last two seasons and have a great chance at a third. This is a great sports town with smart and passionate fans who keep the buzz going. (Odds he re-signs with the Phillies, even money)

Cubs —Cubs fans have the electricity and atmosphere that seems to motivate Pedro to greatness. After a disappointing 2009 season, Pedro may be a great mentor for the other pitchers and a solid addition to the back of the rotation.  (Odds he signs with the Cubs, 6-1)

Cardinals —St. Louis is baseball town USA and is always on the shortlist for players to play. The fans are great, and the Cards always have a team capable of making a playoff run. (Odds he signs with the Cardinals, 7–1 )

Dodgers —Pedro going to the bright lights of Mannywood to help Manny and Torre get over the hump and make it to the World Series. The Dodgers were the team that traded Pedro to the then-Montreal Expos. (Odds he signs with the Dodgers, 9-1)

Yankees —Pedro said during his World Series press conference that he was the most influential player to step foot in Yankee Stadium. Could Pedro join his Daddy and rule the baseball universe as father and son? (Odds he signs with the Yankees, 15 – 1)

Major League Baseball and its fans need Pedro Martinez not only because he is a great pitcher, but also because he is a great personality. He understands the game and still competes, even though he has lost the zip on his fastball. He knows how to entertain the paying customer known as the baseball fan. He may not be Cy Young-worthy any more, but Pedro still has something left to offer. Having Pedro in your rotation is not going to hurt you, and he can still give an ACE-like performance from time to time. Pedro, I am glad you're back in baseball because the game seemed a little less entertaining without you.
