Texas Rangers Announce Chuck Greenberg Out as CEO

Texas Rangers CEO and managing partner Chuck Greenberg was forced to resign his position in Arlington for the Texas Rangers.

As expected, Nolan Ryan wouldn’t say what really went on to cause the departure of Greenberg. However, we can all speculate.

But when it is all said and done, why have a press conference to blow smoke? As someone who sat and listened to this press conference and saw the expressions of Ryan, Bob Simpson and Ray Davis, I just know they were not sincere about how they presented this “good” bye to Greenberg.

Did the fact that Greenberg may have gotten involved with the Michael Young negotiations, or caused a potential trade to go south, make this happen? This was never confirmed, but it was reported.

The timing of the resignation of Greenberg will still be a question to everyone. All this on the heels rumors of the Young situation that were, again, reported but not confirmed.

But it seems to be a situation that Ryan and Greenberg didn’t see eye to eye. Was that really the downfall for Greenberg?

Not to state the obvious, however if you disagree with Ryan you may not have a spot in the organization. It seems like the old “my way or the highway” is being played by Ryan.

Greenberg was also paid for his “interest” in the team. This came with a what could be called a gag order in place. In other words, no bad-mouthing the organization on your way out the door agreement. That probably cost the Rangers more money, however it seems Ryan got his way, and now will have Greenberg’s title too.

In a positive, Ryan refused to badmouth Greenberg or get into the specifics of them parting of ways. The media attempted more than once to get that out of Ryan. It didn’t happen.

Ray Davis also interjected that it just wasn’t Ryan’s decision. I would say there was an awful lot of “influence” coming from the President of the Rangers however.

The old “blow smoke” answers. The political correct answers, only make the speculation of the parting of ways take on a life of its own. You know there will be more investigation on this situation later on down the road.
