If there’s one word that makes fantasy owners ears perk up like Tiger Woods at a sex convention, its sleeper. Everyone thinks they have a few gems, but usually keep their names under tighter wraps than Al Capone’s vault. Most would rather lose a limb than divulge such top secret information to even their closest of confidants.

Why such secrecy?

Believe it or not, it has been 43 years since a major league baseball player captured the Triple Crown. The jewels in this elusive crown are batting average, home runs, and runs batted in.

Only a blessed few are in this elite class. Sixteen men, yes only sixteen men in the history of major league baseball have achieved such an incredible individual feat.

Since the late 1990's dynasty years, and well before high walk totals and high on base percentages were fashionable, the New York Yankees lineup was known as a patient group, working the pitcher to drive pitch counts up and getting to the opponents bullpen early.

Often they would get to the bullpen by the fifth, sixth, or seventh innings.  And when it became a battle of the bullpens, the Yankees always had the advantage with hurlers like John Wetteland, Mariano Rivera, and Jeff Nelson.

The Boston Red Sox have done a wonderful job of overhauling their roster this winter. After being swept out of the playoffs by the Angels, GM Theo Epstein knew major changes needed to be made, and he did just that.

John Lackey, the top free agent pitcher, was added to provide depth to the rotation as well as give a wealth of big-game experience to the staff.  Adrian Beltre and Marco Scutaro were brought in to retool the left side of the infield.

I have learned a lot of things working in Corporate America over the last 11 years. More importantly, I have learned a lot about how to build a team and maintain success being a manager for the last four years.

Anyone who does any type of managing or coaching knows that you will have strong performers on your team and weak performers. It’s just the nature of the beast.

MLBTradeRumors.com is reporting the New York Mets have come to a contract agreement with free agent catcher Rod Barajas. Ken Rosenthal of FoxSports.com was the first to tweet about this deal.

The agreement is reportedly a one year deal with a base of $1 million. It will also include up to $1 million in incentives, which apparently seem easy to attain.

Jo Bydin was a young baseball fan when the Yankees 18-game winning streak was broken by the St. Louis Browns on June 16, 1953.

Jo rooted for the New York Giants, and any day that the Yankees lost was a good day for Jo Bydin.

The New York Yankees had high hopes of becoming contenders in 1966 after their disastrous sixth place finish the previous season.

There are few things I find more comical than when an athlete who has accomplished absolutely nothing in his profession tells everyone how great he is. We see this time and time again in sports.

The latest example of this would be C.J. Wilson of the Texas Rangers.

Wilson has been in the major leagues now for five seasons and yes, he has had a couple of good years, but the reality is he has been nothing more than set-up man/reliever in his career.

"My plan is definitely to win the World Series," answered Johan Santana after being questioned on the Mets expectations for the upcoming season. "That's what we want to do, and that's what we have in mind."

The day before it was David Wright telling a small contingency of reporters, "We feel like we're going to go out there and win the National League East and go deep in the playoffs and win the World Series."

For the first time that I can remember in the Mark Shapiro-era of the Cleveland Indians, the team might have actually made a sound free agent signing that didn't involve the term "low-risk."

Granted, the reported deal that Russell Branyan has accepted is a one-year deal worth $2 million dollars, this isn't a typical garbage heap signing Shapiro has pulled off in the past.

This is more along the lines of Kerry Wood, David Dellucci, and Roberto Hernandez being signed to major league deals. This is a player expected to come in and earn his salary, even if it is at a bargain.
