Mariners' Five Worst Losses Of 2009

In lieu of this recent series with Texas, I've decided to countdown the five worst Mariners losses of the season.

Yes, I know that it's only May 14th, but the hard-luck Mariners have already suffered a good amount of heartbreaking ones.

Let's get to it.

5. May 2nd vs. Oakland - Rob Johnson Blunders

It's Only May, But Which MLB Teams Can Stay?

Raise your hand if you had Toronto, Texas, and Kansas City as your American League Division Leaders as of May 13th.

Anyone?

That's what I thought.  We're on the same page, because neither did I.

Granted, it's only May, and there is a lot of baseball left to be played.  Teams have roughly 125-plus games left on their 2009 schedules.

But I am already looking ahead to October baseball (is there anything better?)

The National League has most of the favorites on top.

Home Runs and Hypocrisy: The Shaming of Manny Ramirez

You would think that Manny Ramirez was caught fighting pit bulls alongside Martha Stewart.

ESPN's Bill Simmons says that he is "confronting my worst nightmare." Jeff Passan of Yahoo! Sports believes that it is time to talk about "lifetime bans." Boston Globe writer Tony Massarotti says "everyone is guilty until proven innocent."

The sports radio and comment boards have been cesspools of racism. It's always easy to hate, especially someone who plays a game for a living and makes millions of dollars.

The San Diego Padres Report with MLB.com Beat Writer Corey Brock

Corey Brock was nice enough to stop by The Swinging Friar for the third installment of "The Padres Report." He talked about the clubhouse atmosphere during the Padres' losing streak, if manager Bud Black could be on the hot seat, and when Padre fans could possibly see Kyle Blanks.

Nationals Offense Bashing, But Long-Term Outlook Doesn't Look Good

With their 6-3 win over the San Francisco Giants on Wednesday afternoon, the Washington Nationals return home with a still league-worst record of 11-21. That said, they finished their west-coast road trip at 4-4, and really, it should have been 6-2.

But I don't have to tell you about the Nationals' bullpen, right?

Dear Randy Johnson: Please Stop

Dear Randy,

You were once the most imposing pitcher in baseball. Batters would cower in fear as you stood to face them on the mound. Because of your dominating presence, you were able to rack up wins and strikeouts in bundles. Heck, even a bird didn't stand a chance against you.

While I believe your quest for 300 wins is noble and would solidify your already solidified Hall of Fame potential, my favorite memories of you are being overtaken by more recent ones.

The Daily Box Score May 12, 2009: New York Yankees Vs. Toronto Blue Jays

This article is a game recap based solely on what the author has read in the game's box score. If you want to know what really happened, you can go watch SportsCenter and pray that you don't change the channel before they put on the 30 second segment of the game.

Toronto Blue jays 5, New York Yankees 1

In what was claimed to be a regular off day for New York Yankee captain, Derek Jeter, 43,000-plus Canadian conspiracy theorists at the Roger's Center weren't having any of it.

Houston Astros Pitchers Make Colorado Rockies Fans Happy

Someone forgot to tell the Houston Astros that Coors Field is supposed to be a HITTERS' ballpark.

It's 11-1, the Colorado Rockies leading Houston going into the bottom of the eighth inning. Colorado has hit four home runs, including one by Astros killer Todd Helton (who I've always felt has some slightly-padded offensive numbers due to playing home games at Coors Canaveral).

Kaz Matsui is 0-4 in the leadoff tonight, while Lance Berkman, back in the lineup, is 1-4 and is hitting .187.

When the Dust Cleared, A.J. Burnett Was Left Lying on the Ground

Much like the scene at the OK Corral, Roy "Doc" Halladay stood victorious. He allowed only a single run over nine innings and defeated his one time protégée A.J. Burnett 5–1 at the Rogers Centre.

It was the Jays’ first true test of the season. After going up against the likes of the Cleveland Indians and the Baltimore Orioles, they had yet to meet a team of any importance, specifically the Yanks or the Sox.

I Admit It: I Have Cheated Bleacher Report (Humor)

I am sorry.

I wanted to come to this community as soon as I found out the news was going to be released to let my fans and respected colleagues know some tough circumstances I am dealing with now.

I, Tab Bamford, have cheated Bleacher Report by using performance-enhancing substances.

While the Bleacher Report community might not have any rules that lead to a suspension or loss of writing privileges, I thought it was the right thing to do to come clean now, before this becomes a bigger deal.
