New Seattle Mariners general manager Jerry DiPoto resigned from the same position with the Los Angeles Angels last season amid speculation that he and longtime manager Mike Scioscia did not get along. DiPoto touched on the subject Friday when talking with MLB Network Radio about his new job (h/t Matt Snyder of CBS Sports):

The Major League Baseball offseason has been as entertaining and unpredictable as we could have hoped, yet several big-name players remain in free agency.

As spring training has just gotten underway, it's time for front offices to fine-tune their rosters before the regular season gets started.

While some of the available free agents are experienced veterans and others are young guys looking for a fresh start, the talent level remains high among available players.

One of the defining moments of the Washington Nationals' 2015 season saw Jonathan Papelbon and Bryce Harper engage in a dugout skirmish on Sept. 27.

The incident led Washington to suspend Papelbon for four games, ending his 2015 season, per Bill Ladson of MLB.com. 

After making stops with three different teams in 2015, Juan Uribe will hope to stay put in Cleveland. The Indians filled out its infield depth Friday, agreeing to a contract just shy of $5 million with the veteran third baseman, per ESPN's Buster Olney.

Former San Francisco Giants infielder and manager Jim Davenport died on Thursday night at the age of 82. 

The Giants released a statement about Davenport's death on Twitter:  

As the Giants' statement on Davenport's passing noted, he spent most of his life with the franchise after beginning his Major League Baseball career as a player in 1958. 

After a successful debut season with the Texas Rangers in 2015, manager Jeff Banister was rewarded Friday in the form of an exercised contract option for 2015.

According to Rangers Executive Vice President of Communications John Blake, the 52-year-old former Pittsburgh Pirates bench coach was also given a team option for 2019.

The agent of Seattle Mariners outfielder Leonys Martin was reportedly indicted Friday for his role in helping his client defect from Cuba in 2010.

According to Jeff Passan of Yahoo Sports, Bart Hernandez is facing human-trafficking charges in relation to the 27-year-old former Texas Rangers star.   

From the reloaded Chicago Cubs to the restocked San Francisco Giants, there's no shortage of teams who have gone big during the MLB offseason.

Now that the hype machine is in full swing, it's time to look back at the winter and predict which club's offseason activity will translate to regular (and post) season success.

The first step was to scan the entire league to single out the franchises who have moved the most aggressively since the close of the 2016 campaign.

Michael Rae Papayans of Palos Verdes, California, was charged with felony assault Thursday for an alleged October 2015 incident at Dodger Stadium.  

According to the Associated Press (h/t ESPN.com), Papayans is accused of punching a 50-year-old man who was wearing New York Mets gear following an Oct. 9 NLDS Game 1 playoff clash between the Los Angeles Dodgers and Mets.
